Finally some news on the novelization of the movie. It will be writen by Alan Dean Foster.
What I also consider good news is that the novel will not come out before the movie premiers. :bolian:

This month’s update is going to be very brief. I had to fly into Los Angeles a week ago to, among other things, see the new STAR TREK movie at Paramount. Which in my opinion is, by the way, really, really good. And as I’m writing the book version, and as said book version must be completed really, really soon, I am going to be really, really busy for the next month.
Really.
TrekMovie checked in with Pocket Books and a spokesperson confirmed that Foster is writing the book and that it should be released around the same date as the film…either the same date (May 8th) or within a few days after. The Star Trek adaptation will be in a large sized ‘trade paperback’ format and will retail for around $16.00 (the price has not yet been finalized). No word yet on if there will be a young adult or audio version.

Nice.

I'm having a love/hate relationship with this movie. Every time I hear something good, something bad follows a few days later. It's like a see-saw ... I'm up on the film, I'm down on the film.

Now I'm back up. What's next?

I didn't realize he's still alive. :vulcan:

He's only 62. Was only in his twenties when he began novelizing the animated series. Unless he opts to retire for some reason, he could well be novelizing Trek films for another generation or so.

He's often credited as doing the TMP novelization, but in fact GR did write it.

However, he did write In thy Image - the 2-part Phase II script which was to eventually become TMP.

No, ADF wrote the original treatment for In Thy Image based on Gene Roddenberry's one paragraph description of his unproduced Genesis II episode, Robot's Return. The two ITI teleplays were written by Harold Livingston and Gene Roddenberry.

Lol - I just knew I should have deferred that one to you, but for some reason I thought I had it right..

My first reaction to the thread title was "But he's DEAD."

I swear it was said that he died several years ago and his wife ended up having to finish writing the "Log" series.

This is...very strange.
