Christopher Nolan to direct sci-fi actioner "Inception"

It was announced today that Christopher Nolan's next project will be the science-fiction action film Inception, based on an original screenplay he wrote. This project is set up at Warner Bros.

Nolan intends to shoot the film next year for a summer 2010 release date. This also pushes back development on a third Batman film but with Nolan continuing to work with Warner Bros it seems likely that after work finishes on Inception he might move forward on a new Batman. After all three years and The Prestige passed between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Personally I am glad to see Nolan working on an original project again, and especially one he conceived. I am also excited to see it on the genre he hasn't explored yet-- a favorite of mine-- science-fiction. I am already really looking forward to this.

I think it's funny that I can barely remember the last time I saw you here, and you return to post this.

It's like going to visit an old friend to collect on a debt...it's polite to show up once in between just to say hey.

I was thinking that about Dan myself...lol. Interesting a Nolan Sci-Fi flick sounds like a very cool thing. I'll be checking it out when it comes out. Yeah he took a break in between Batman Begins and Dark Knight to make The Prestige so this should give him another year or so break in order to be refreshed for a third one if there ever is one.

Chris Nolan making a sci-fi actioner is certainly welcome news. :techman:

I think the chances of Nolan making another Batman film are very, very strong. Warners is obviously going to roll out the red carpet and offer him several tons of incentives to sign on. If things progress smoothly I'd say we'll get Inception in summer 2010 and the next Batman film in summer 2011.

I think Nolan is a brilliant director, I love his work ( except insomnia, I swear that movie CURED my insomnia) so the fact he will be making a Sci-fi movie is great news to hear!

Prediction: If Christopher Nolan decides not to do another Batman film, then Watchmen director Zach Snyder go to the top of the list. But don't ask me to put money on it.

Well I hope his sci fi actioner has some genuinely choreographed action and not a shakey camera, muddled ball of confusion impersonating action.

Nolan has joined that select list of directors whose new release creates a genuine buzz of excitement and interest. He's now up there with Mann, Spielberg, Ridley Scott, in terms of ability, if not back catalogue. Unless something goes seriously wrong, this is bound to end up in the must-see category.
