The Vampire Diaries. CW greenlights new Vampire show.

Not surprisingly, the box-office success of Twilight has led the CW to stake out some territory in the teens-and-vampires genre by picking up a pilot for Vampire Diaries, a Kevin Williamson-penned adaptation of a 15-year-old series of novels.

Similar to (and yet predating) Stephanie Meyer's Twilight, Vampire Diaries revolves around a young heroine who is the object of obsession of two brothers — both vampires, one good and one ... well, he's more complicated. The bloodsucking siblings fight for her soul, as well as dibs on other residents within their small town.

Williamson (Dawson's Creek, Scream) is penning the pilot with Julie Plec (Kyle XY), and will exec-produce.

No, it's not a spinoff of Buffy or Angel sadly... I kind of feel bad for Moonlight fans since they made the mistake of airing one season early before this Vampire fad started. Looking at the bright side the CW does have one good show on it's schedule (Supernatural) so there is 2% chance of this turning out good. :)

yeah, I was a Moonlight fan... talk about bad timing. :(
I hope CBS is hurting about this... they deserve it.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

CBS really screwed up in canceling Moonlight. It was a steady performer, and likely would have continued to be (perhaps strengthening by maintaining more of its lead-in from Ghost Whisperer). A second season certainly would have fared far better than the immediate crash and burn of its replacement, The Ex List.

To think Kevin Williamson used to have so much promise.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

Though I never particularly enjoyed 'Moonlight,' I believe that the show had a good following and should not have been axed because of its original take on the vampire.

This new show, however, sounds like more rehashed crap from the 'Twilight' factory.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

My mom was pissed when they canceled Moonlight. I never watched it myself, but it sounded decent, and from what I remember, weren't its numbers pretty good (not great, but not bad either)?

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

God, I'm so sick of vampires. They've become such a complete fucking cliché.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

At first I was afraid Moonlight was an Angel rip-off, but I found I actually enjoyed it. Figures it was cancelled. Too intelligent for 14 year old boys (or studio execs, or both), apparently. ;)

And no doubt it will feature fresh, hip music playing in the background as the Plucky Heroine and the Brooding Hero gaze longingly at each other!

Short sighted execs always do that. No doubt Moonlight was a moderate hit and was having a growing fan base, but was treated badly. The writing was smart and modern with a good looking and good acting cast. Hmmm... reminds me of a certain cult classic sci fi show of the 60's. We all know how that ended up. ;)

It usually won it's time period. The problem was that it would dip from Ghost Whispers' leadout, and watched Numb3rs rise up afterwards...Having the middle show get out performed by it's bookends was the network's motivation for seeking something that would hold the line throughout the night. Sadly, there was no place else they could put it. Mon, Weds and Thurs were out, and genre tinged Jericho got nuked on Tuesdays...:(

Knowing the CW it's probably teenaged vampires.

Teenage Vampries that like to take their shirts off.:rommie:
In super slo mo...with the wind machine turned on high.

I'm trying not to say "Vampires suck", but...
Dang, ya beat me to it.

No doubt you were correct.

So did anyone watch this teeny bopper-angst ridden, light weight "True Blood" schmaltz fest where 30-year olds play teenagers?

I missed the first 20 minutes.

Had CW CLICHE SHOW all over it.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

It's only 6:45 here in Cali and I'm debating whether to reprogram my VCR to tape this thing...should I just forget it? ;)

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

I've only recently become a major fan of Buffy and Angel, and I frankly can't imagine vampires existing in any other form. I don't even want them to. Unless there's a spin-off in the works, I'm not interested in vampires at all.
