The LA Times has confirmed that "Smallville" executive producers Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin have signed on to helm the update of "Melrose Place" for The CW.

"Smallville" fans needn't fret that the departure of Swimmer and Slavkin spells the end of Clark and Co. While the show has yet to be renewed for a ninth season, sources assure that a greenlight for more is likely. And with Swimmer and Slavkin gone, the show's other two executive producers, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, are poised step in as show runners."

Given the crushing mediocrity of the last several Lana-centric episodes, I'm not sure if this is a bad thing.
 
Well, that all depends on who is responsible for these episodes? I was surprised how little credit that Gough and Millar got for being principle creative talent, but of course they told people what to write and then rewrote everything about 9 times before air, but from scratch they have about 4 or 5 credits to their name.

Todd and Darren wrote Odyssey, identity and Power this season which all kinda sucked except for Lois in the maid outfit and Chloe murdering the memory stealing bloke. They wrote power. Yucky.

Then, there is always plenty of blame to go around with Smallville.
 
Just let Smallville DIE already...

I'm sorry, but the show was only ever supposed to be 4 seasons long. If any of them had stayed in college (what a great example they set, btw, by having them all drop out for nice desk jobs, btw) they'd graduate that now!

Put Welling in a red cape, play the fan fare... lets go!
 
What does that mean, it hasn't been renewed yet? The local affiliate here has already gone on record as saying the network has informed them that it's been renewed for a 9th season.
 
The CW is being pissy and not "officially" renewing anything until May. The creator of Supernatural has written two versions of his finale--one if it comes back (which it probably will) and one if it doesn't (if Ostroff goes insane with her Melrose Place and Gossip Girl spinoffs). You never know.

Smallville is still on because the CW can't create any hits of its own. Gossip Girl's numbers are tanking ever since House started airing on Mondays. Not that they were great to begin with, but the CW is committed to the 18-34 demo with extra focus on teen girl demo formula. That'll never work with a broadcast network, but whatever. The CW really needs to die already. Give me my fifth season of Supernatural, then it can go.
 
This was annouced a few weeks ago.

Smallville is likely coming back - it's up to Welling if it will or not. He has been offered a contract for a ninth season but if he doesn't sign they're already planning a spinoff show.
 
Tom Welling will be 32 in April. He's too old to be superboy Clark who hasn't embraced his identity. He needs to give it up already or put on the suit. How many more seasons? A 35 year old Clark? A 36 year old Clark? A Clark who needs a touch up at the temples with Grecian Formula because his Kryptonian parents went gray a little early?

Let Smallville continue. Even if this season is an improvement, the series' potential has already been squandered. It's basically well past the point of no return. Might as well let this trainwreck go on....

...unless it's getting in the way of a good Superman flick.

IMDB lists his DOB as April 26, 1977. Not old in the scheme of things, but old if you're trying to portray a 21-ish year old kid.

Well, I have no trouble accepting Welling as being a CK in his early twenties.
He certainly doesn't look 32.

Appearance doesn't always show ones age.
I have a couple 24 year old friends who look like they are over thirty and my brother at 21 looks like he's 16.
 
A friend of mine will be 29 in a few months and part of his family went around Christmas, is he old enough to drink? They think he's 17-19.

However Welling looks old, however Welling always looked old, so he looks the same now than he did when the show started.

And he is supposed to be playing a 21 year old? Does that mean he was 13 in the pilot? :wtf:
 
I was hoping Tom Welling would leave the show. Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk were smart enough to move on. Even all the Trek shows were smart enough to end after seven seasons.

Are fans still watching because they think they will get Superman?
