kinda looks like a cross between a starship and an x wing fighter.got any other views?

Thanks for your comments guys! Much appreciated.

I'm in the process of creating some marvellous HD footage of the vessel leaving spacedock and accelerating to warp, exciting stuff.

Looks fragile.

Looks can be very deceiving.... Especially in civil and aeronautical engineering.

Some of the strongest root-structures and load bearing centrebodies on ships, aircraft and vehicles completely baffle 'observers' as to how they perform. It is the quintessential trait of good design, combining aesthetics and good engineering.

Look at an oil tanker's rudder, or the axle rods of a F1 racing car, or the outer section of a 777's wing - all appear to look fragile in comparison to achieving what they were designed for... this is what you have to take into consideration.

The second image sells the design... at first, it looked quite odd, but from the second angle, I can appreciate the form and detail. I guess like certain other ships... this one has certain angles where it looks better.

Hey Mark I love the ship,I have to ask just how big is this baby? I would have to guess that buy the size of it's windows it's smaller than a GALAXY, SOVEREIGN class, so I would guess it's about the size of a INTREPID Class.

Hi miraclefan, thx for the compliment friend!

You hit the nail on the head regarding the vessel's size - the mass would be at least one-third more than an Intrepid, yet the habitable areas and crew compliment would be very similar.

I'd like the Aquila to be a 'Special Operations' vessel of some kind - it has a large, and I mean very large shuttle bay the back - lots of various sensor arrays - and of course 4 nacelles for as much redundancy as possible, with 4 tubes and a multitude of phaser banks.

Perhaps as a second-line command ship by lower-ranking Admirals.

Also, I wouldn't have imagined too many ships of the class would be constructed, ten to twenty maximum - a 'niche' ship if you will, complimenting the Akira and the Intrepid.

It is better than just having it be a weapons pod, and I still like it.

(That said, an auxiliary deflector on the nose a la Voyager might not hurt.)
