Yeah, I guess I'm a fan. (Got series 1 - 4 on dvd) Waiting for 5 on dvd and 6 on tv:)

I hadn't seen all of JAG (It's on a lot, but it always seems to be repeats of the later series.)

Love the show. Curiously, Mark Harmon is my least favorite part.

Don't get me wrong, I like the actor, and I like the character, but it's just that I like the supporting cast far more. Particularly in the Ziva years. Again, I really liked Kate, but simply like Ziva a bit more.

I love Abby. Or to be perfectly truthful, I lust for her. Which made me feel like a bit like a dirty old man until I recently discovered that she's older than I thought, and that she'll be 40 in March of this year!

Also a big fan of Ducky, which isn't surprising, as I've really liked McCallum since his Ilya Kuryakin days. (I even managed to remain a fan when he did the "Invisible Man" series back in the mid 70s!)

I actually prefer Ziva to Kate. When I've watched the ones with Kate now after Ziva being on for a while, Kate bores me. Which is weird because when they killed her off, I was upset and had no idea how they were going to fill her shoes. Ziva is just a much more interesting character IMO.

It's taken me a long time to warm up to Ziva, but I'm there now.

I think it got a lot easier to like the character when she stopped making mistakes with her English. It wasn't funny the first time, and it certainly wasn't funny twice an episode for two years.

I was surpised to find out how popular the show is now. I've watched it since the beginning (Hell, I watched Jag on NBC), and I never knew anyone else who enjoyed it. 6 years later and it's one of the top scripted shows on tv. Good on them:techman:

You know, since the OP is still watching season one, a few of you might want to spoilerize your posts. :p

For some reason I don't remember that one - I have seen it from the beginning on CBS. I do remember skipping an episode because it was a flashback styled episode. This may have been it.

I'm a big fan too, watched it since the JAG two-parter. Love the characters. Oh, and I I prefer the sexy Ziva to Kate no question.

Here in Canada, on History Television, they've been airing NCIS in syndication, so it's cool to flip over during commercials to see episodes of seasons past.

    WillsBabe,

This is just scary. Sometimes I think you and I are twins separated at birth. NCIS became my guilty pleasure of choice around November. I think I've seen the whole series now up to this point. The show is wonderfully written, wickedly funny, and beautifully acted. I love the very family like character dynamics. Gibbs on the surface seems to be the authoritarian father figure until one of his team is truly in trouble then very quickly it is shown how deeply he cares for them. My favorite examples are in the episodes "Twilight" and "Kill Ari I and II." My favorite back of the head slap is the one Gibbs gives to himself in the privacy of the elevator. DiNozzo and McGee have a sibling rivalry thing going on with DiNozzo being the older brother. Below is a youtube clip with my absolute favorite moment with DiNozzo and McGee where the two are just playing around.

    NCIS - Boondocks, boss.

I don't thing so. Or if so, it wasn't in the DVD sets.

Actually I only 'discovered' NCIS about 5 months ago when I was home on vacation with nothing to do. I was flipping through channels, saw Mark Harmon (who I have always liked) on screen (rerun on TNT) and stopped to see what he was up to these days. Recorded a few more episodes, got hooked, and ordered the DVD sets. I'm now about 1/3 of the way through season 5, so almost caught up.

Great show. Good stories, GREAT cast (not a weak link, IMO) and a crime/'cop' show with a sense of humor. Plus, the characters are so diverse - not all cookie cutter interchangeable cops. So there is sorta something for everyone.

One thing I REALLY want to know though: Where on earth can I find a farting hippo plush toy????? GOTTA have one!

I sorta agree. I really liked Kate alot in season 1, but if you go back to watch season 2 again, the ongoing 'you're disgusting'/'you're a prude' battle with Tony starts to wear thin. The relationship between Tony and Ziva is much more complex and interesting.

The most interesting part of Kate was her 'relationship' with Ari in any event....and of course, that was the very way she was taken out and Ziva installed into the show - VERY neatly, I thought!

Wasn't a fan of Ari getting bumped off though - I liked that whole storyline with him v. Gibbs. They coulda pumped that for another year with no trouble at all!

JAG? what is this JAG of which you guys speak.

ok seriously I know what JAG is, but ive never seen it, and love NCIS, its one of the few spin-offs which is superior (or just as good) to the show its spun-off from.

Ziva is alot better than Kate, and I dont miss her one bit

  13. So far i like Kate though I'm only 5 episodes in. The eps from season 3 i've seen with Ziva I'd say i like here more but time will tell.

granted I have no yet seen any of S6, but I think the S3 - 5 cast maybe the best the show has & will have (& yes I know what happens at the end of 5)

  15. Ack, now i'm going to be anticipating something once i reach that point...

I liked Kate. Mainly because she was more likely to challenge Gibbs than Ziva ever does.

But if you look at her episodes, Kate was a screwup. She made huge mistakes throughout her NCIS time.

Failing to stab Ari when she had the chance because (get this) "he had kind eyes".

Allowing Ducky to be kidnapped by a psychopath.

Allowing an escaped prisoner/former SEAL to surprise her and tie her up while she was guarding his son.

Allowing herself to be kidnapped by Ari a second time when she unknowingly jumped into a car following Ari's motorcycle (which just happened to be full of Ari's other Hamas members).

Befriending and being shockingly mislead by an explosives expert with tragic results.

I think what has made the show better is the McGhee/Dinozo dynamic and Mark Harmon taking over the direction of his character.

Unlike most actors, Harmon actually CUTS his lines from scripts so he doesn't speak as much and simply reacts with facial expressions to the others.

In the first NCIS season, Gibbs was written much like Mark Harmons earlier TV characters.

What was more surprising was that when we first met her Kate was assigned to Air Force One as the Secret Service Agent assigned to protect the President. If she were indicative of all Secret Service Agents and I was the President of the US I'd think about a change of job (or at least security guards).
