Which Green Lantern, and who should star?

I think Booth from Bones still wants to hal Jordan again afetr new Frontier... Though Josh Randor from How I met your Mother is abotu perfect fro Kyle. infact the cast of How I met your mother is about perfect for a Green Lantern movie cast. Just leave me fussing over who get's to play Katma Tui and who gets to be star sapphire to Wayne Brady's John Stewart.

Oooooh. David Boreanaz as Hal. Didn't think of that one. I would go see see that.

I think he'd be a good fit. His voice was perfect in NF.

Hal Jordan bores me, always has. The civilian identity is so cliched, he's a stereotype. Kyle Rainer being a kid artist, or Guy Gardner being a fuck up, or even John Stewart being, whatever, a black guy - any of it is more interesting than the cookie cutter 1950's white guy test pilot stuff.

I want to see the green lantern corps, I don't care about one little old hal jordan.

I love Nathan to death. But can you really see that man in a pair of green and black tights?
I doubt it'll be a spandex superhero costume. I think they'll keep the basic color scheme and motif, but turn it into more of a jacket and trousers space cop uniform.

Ah, good point. Since Batman came out, superheroes have gone more for the molded latex body armor.

It'd be cool for him to have "green armor" at one point...sort of like knight's armor generated by his power ring.

Plus, it'd be awesome if he built a "green fortress" of sorts that would orbit the Earth.

Both ideas are from Kingdom Come.

I'd say it should be Hal Jordan. I love the idea of Ben Browder, but would also suggest Nathan Fillion.

Fillion has another TV series this year (Castle, starting in March on ABC). I hope he is available for a big-screen job like Green Lantern if it starts production by summer. He would be a much better choice than the comparatively wimpy Ryan Gosling.

Man, I guess nobody cares about Alan Scott.

Yeah. A human Green Lantern might be useful for audience identification, but parrot Green Lanterns and plant Green Lanterns and planet Green Lanterns are where it's at.

I think they should film the GL movie like beowulf..cgi with actual actors with motion capture suits or whatever because i don't want them to change the costume, but i also don't like the idea of seeing a guy in spandex for and hour and a half, but if it's a kick ass cg cartoon it's all good.
and jaime bamber from battlestar is by far the most perfectest choice for hal

Vin Diesel would make a decent Guy Gardner. So, for that matter, would Will Ferrell.

Jordan...they're going to cast young, obviously. A lot of possibilities.

If they decide to make John Stewart the main character and they don't pony up for Will Smith they're not really in the game. He is probably the most bankable actor in the business right now and he has extensive experience with action and effects movies. The very fact that he's managed to star in some real turkeys and yet his star continues to rise is a clear demonstration of his industry awesomeness.

Hal Jordan bores me. I'd like to see Jon Stewart. And if he hadn't gone crazy, I'd have picked Wesley Snipes to star. If he could fake an American accent well, I'd cast Djimon Hounsou (from Amistad & Blood Diamond).

In defense of poor boring Hal, I have to point out that 'Hal Jordan' and 'John Stewart' really aren't that different anymore. Whatever lines there were between them blurred in recent years, after Hal's death and JLU happened. Hal Jordan is an ex-Naval aviator turned test pilot from Coast City, CA. John Stewart is an ex-Marine turned architect from Detroit. Their personalities really aren't that different, as to be a Green Lantern you have to have the whole 'man without fear' thing going on. (Well, unless you're Kyle Rayner.) So in that regard, I see them as largely interchangeable. One of them just happens to be white, and one of them black.

My personal thought regarding increased diversity in the JLA (well, the series anyway) has always been that Hawkman and/or Hawkgirl should be black as well. Since they are supposed to be tied into Ancient Egypt, it makes sense. Either just make the original Katar and Shayera Hol black, or make new 'incarnations' of them (since that's pretty much their shtick) that happen to be black, and tweak the characters accordingly.

I agree Will Smith is a good choice if they go that route, and sets a nice precedent for casting the other uncast members of the JLA. I would be fine with Smith being John Stewart. I would also suggest Matthew St. Patrick of 'Six Feet Under' and Erik King of 'Dexter.' Both look more the part and have superb acting abilities, but lack the starpower of Smith. I also wouldn't mind Hal Jordan just being black for the movie, and retaining any characteristics of Stewart that would be relevant. Also, since JS started as Hal's backup, why not do the reverse if they pick Stewart as the first lantern?

For an adulty Jordan, I think George Eads would be good, as would David Boreanaz, but I don't think Boreanaz would ever get the part. Another good candidate (particularly if they do a younger Jordan as the backup) would be 'Supernatural's Jensen Ackles. Since Jordan's look was patterned on Paul Newman, and Jensen Ackles looks like Newman, then there you go. ;)

(In fact, the more I think about it, the more I want Ackles to play Jordan. Smith and Stewart be damned!! :p )

Ryan Gosling... I don't think is really a good fit for either Jordan or Rayner. Barry Allen Flash? Maybe. Josh Radnor, from 'How I Met Your Mother,' would be a good Rayner if he worked out a little more. Of course, being a Lantern obviously doesn't require Superman-level muscle. I can't actually think of a good 'serious' candidate for Guy Gardner.

So who would play Tom Kamalku? :rommie:

No love for Common, who was supposed to be John Stewart in the abortive Justice League movie?

The word for some time has been that Ryan Gosling is the studio's choice. Of course, this could end up being as accurate as the Eric Bana for Bond, Liev Schreiber for Two-Face or Lachley Hulme as the Joker - take your ultimately-inaccurate 'sure thing' pick.

Some pre-production and concept art for the movie was online a few months ago (I don't have a link I'm afraid) and it was very obvious that the artist was basing the character's look on David Boreanaz. I suspect that this was because the artist was a fan or else because DB had voiced him in that recent animated movie. I've been a fan of Boreanaz since Angel and would like to see him become a movie star but I suspect that WB are unlikely to cast a tv star like him, Nathan Fillion or Jamie Bamber in a tentpole movie like this, even though any of them would be capable of carrying it, IMHO. As GL isn't a household name like Batman or Superman, they probably can't rely on the character being enough to draw fans in and they'll probably want a bigger name.

On the other hand, with this being (presumably) an expensive, SFX heavy movie, they may not want to spend a lot of the budget on a big-name actor. Really, the only actor guaranteed to put bums on seats these days is Will Smith but the studio have indicated that the main character won't be John Stewart, which rules him out. I suspect that they'll go down the Batman/ Iron Man route of casting a respected actor's actor like Bale or Downey jr, rather than a big -and pricey - star.

I actually don't know any of the GL characters well enough to have strong views on their casting, but if one of them (Jordan?) was based on Paul Newman's looks, might Matthew McConaughey or Cole Hauser be obvious choices?

Matthew McConaughey
Noooooooo!

Here's a name that springs to mind: Gerard Butler.

He delivered big time for Warners in 300 and is in the "Tales of the Black Freighter" extra for Watchmen. He has the right look for Jordan and might be at just the right level of stardom (a well-known and respected actor, but not too pricey).

I think it should be John Stewart for the reasons others have stated. The only minority superhero franchise we've had was Blade.

Here's my casting choices for all four:

Hal Jordan: Matthew Fox
Kyle Rainer: Casey Affleck
Guy Gardner: Ben Foster
John Stewart: Chiwetel Ejiofor

Hayden Christensen should play Hal Jordan. His wooden acting is perfect.
 OOOOHHHHHH GOOOD NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!:scream: ( runs SCREAMING from the computer)

I'm serious, Hayden is perfect. That boring personality. That lack of charisma. That obnoxious, elitist, arrogance. That willful, tragic unawareness of modern hipness. That annoying sense of entitlement. The fact that everyone around them is a thousand times cooler then they are. And they both went evil and killed all of their friends. He was practically playing Hal Jordan in Star Wars. O'Neil's classic Green Lantern/Green Arrow run was basically one, long running gag about what an uncool, out of touch, tool Hal was. Which is why it was a classic, because it was the first to point out the obvious.

The only cool thing Hal Jordan ever did was punch out Batman, a character even more annoying then he is. If Anikan had done that to Jar Jar, that would have been awesome.
