USS Aventine preliminary design

From the latest issue of the Star Trek Magazine, here's what's being called a "preliminary design" for the USS Aventine. According to the sidebar, the final design will be "unveiled in the Ships of the Line calendar for 2010". I definitely want to see more, but I'm liking it so far!

Is it just me, or does this ship seem to share some design elements with Vektor's Grandeur?

Mind you, I'm not saying they're identical, and I think Vektor's ship is much better looking, but something about the sweep of the deflector cowling up into the underside of the primary hull, and the arcing sweep of nacelle struts ....

Not the Quasimodo hump, though. Definitely not that.

Just sayin'.

WWWOOOWWWW! THAT IS AAWWSOOMMME ( in peter grifin voice ) By the by I LOVE! the ships of the line caladers I have always bought one every year since 04! You know now that I really look at it with some slight modifecations this could be the next ENTERPRISE. the 1701-F.

Not bad at all. Looks very pointy, almost as if the primary hull is vestigial and the secondary hull is the main hull, with the way it humps over. It will be interesting to see how this translates to orthos.

The nacelles look rather fragile compared to the sturdy primary and secondary hull but it´s obvious they´re still improving the design.
Should be interesting to see how this develops.

Any idea who´s designing her? The style looks familiar.

But I´m really looking forward to Andrew Probert´s contribution to the calendar (the preview at Doug Drexler´s blog looked great).

Very nice. Sorta reminds me of my own guesswork on the ol' Aventine (they both seem to share a certain hunchbackedness in common)

Nacelles don't look right though, they're too skinny IMO.

The ship is being designed by SCN regular Clawhammer; he designed the runabout and the experimental slipstream ship for the SOTL calendar of the past two years. To be honest... I'm not such a great fan of the design, something strikes me as odd about it.

Lol typical, I typed my reply while at work and got called away, then all I posted was 1 sentence, but I had an entire essay in my mind. Dont worry I was just curious, did not know it was in a magazine at all to be honest.

Thanks for the comments! I'm currently working on the armor plating it takes a bit more time then I expected. I really hope to have an update this Thursday.

P.s. Pylons are beefed up since that concept image.

It's sleek enough, but I'm wondering what era to place it in... the nacelles say ENT, but the rest says post-VOY.

It would be a nice painted piece... after the dismal quality of CG in the latest SoTL, it'd be a nice change to see some painted works.

Very nice design. Did you explore what it might look like with the warp engines below,... pylons angled down like a Bird of Prey? That would provide more clearence for the landing bay.

Still,... a design up to your usual high standards.

I made a very early sketch with the nacelles below the ship. In a conversation with Marco Palmieri he had 1 request for the design: the nacelles should face upwards, a key difference with the Titan so the 2 would not look too much alike. I minimized the risc of a shuttle bumping into the nacelles. 4 tractor beams and a small control "tower" will make sure that runabouts and shuttles can depart as safe as possible from the liftdeck and the 2 bays.

I have been awefully busy the last 2 months, but luckily it's clearing up a bit now. I hope to have an update of the ship tomorrow night.
