Disgruntled Janeway fans: try a carrot

Oh God. You're not going to show them the corn story, are you? I don't know if you wrote it, Brit, but mix Trek and erotica in my mind and that's what comes up.

Oh God no! I only read that story once and that was enough for me. The closest thing to a prop I ever used was Chakotay slathering warm paint across Kathryn's back.

I was going to point out an older site called "Erotic Quills" and the article "Sex Scenes - What Guy's Want."

I don't know what other guys like - but I don't like sex in my books - I like having sex but reading about it leaves me cold - it's like reading about people playing football, I'd rather go outside and kick the ball myself.

If it fits the story, I don't mind it at all. When it's overly gratuitous and BECOMES the story - see the more recent Anita Blake novels, for example - it's not my favorite thing. Like Joe said - I'd rather kick the football myself.

Also, Janeway's death does in no way prevent a flashback story. In fact, a character could be spurred to remembering a romance with Janeway after she passed on....

The earth, she does not move for me with that one. Every time now, in a flashback story or one set in the series run, I'm going to see Janeway and think: "dude, you get eaten by a floor".

"Mr. Tuvok, raise the shields!" A big flat floory floor.

"Coffee. Black." A Borg floor!

"Kiss me, Chakotay..." But not one of those awful tiled things that catches all the dirt. It's scotch-guarded. All mess just drains away...

*splort*:guffaw::guffaw: I hear ya Octavia I hear you LOL

Do you have similar flashbacks to ST's finale every time you see Leonard Nimoy in STs III, IV, V, VI and "Unification"?

You know I don't see the problem if Janeway were badass enough she would be able to resurrect herself without any author help. Here is what I mean in the episode Flashback Janeway says the type of officers from Kirk's day would probably be thrown out of 24th century Starfleet. JJ Abrams has reconted the captains from Kirk's day to all be badasses, one of these captains is Captain Robau evidence of his badass abilities is seen are here http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=76045, another captain is Spock he came back from the dead pretty easily, Kirk only died after being brough to the slightly wussier 24th century and is likely still alive in part in the Nexus, Hell the captain of the Saratoga in Star Trek IV probably used badass mojo to fix her ship after running into the Whale Proble and is likely still alive. Also Pike didn't need the Talosians help to regenerate himself he just didn't want to make a spectical of it and waited for their backs to be turned to do it. Now there are some 24th century captains who are badasses these are Sisko and Picard, they are kind of like captains in Kirk's day Sisko was able to be brought back and Picard is badass enough not to get killed in the first place, Janeway on the other hand reports to be nothing like those captains so she is basically screwed for not allowing herself to become badass enough.

Hartzilla, I believe I speak for everyone here, when I say:

:wtf:

Well since we've had this same dicussion going on for THREE THREADS already I thought I would do something different. Plus besides being the first female captain to head a series and getting lucky a few times with the Borg I don't see why there are so many people who can't stand the though of her being dead to the point that they are dumping Trek. I mean I was pissed they offed Kirk and destroyed the Enterprise-D in the stupidest way imaginable ie: taken out be a POS Bird of Prey but I didn't give up Trek because of that and I like Kirk more than Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, Calhoun, Shelby, and Kira.

I asked my wife what she thought about Star Trek books going in a more romantic line. She loves reading Star Trek too, but unfortunately does not have as much time to read them, as often as I do. Her response was and I quote.." if I want to read trash novels I'll go buy one but when I read Star Trek I want it to be Star trek free of all that trashiness"! So...some women may like to read erotica and have fantasies about Janeway and Chakotay or Kes and Paris or whatever, but I would be willing to bet that most women who read Star Trek would not want their Star Trek going in that direction. There are thousands and thousands of romance novels out there and if that is your thing then go read them and leave Trek alone. I'm fine with romance coming into a novel (Death in Winter) but I certainly don't want Star Trek exploited by romance and neither does my wife!

Kevin

I can certainly see that point but rumor has it that there are some Trek romances in Trek Lit already. Adding one more without the typical romance novel elements wouldn't make that much of a difference. Then again, at this point I'd be happy with a decent series with a live Janeway.

There are plenty of romances going on in TrekLit. It's just not been the focus of most of the novel lines.

Nor should it be because that's not what Star Trek is about. To think of a Star Trek novel with a Janeway romance as the focus kind of gives me the heebee-jeebees! Just don't want to go there! :wtf:

I don't mind the idea of an individual book that's romance-focused, just like I don't mind the idea of an individual book that's politics-focused. (Hello, Articles of the Federation.)

Articles of Titillation?

I second that. But who gets to write it? Mack? KRAD?

Or an anthology!

Treks of Titillation

The irony here is that Peter David wrote the only Star Trek novel that is romace-focused in Imzadi.

I am now giggling at said irony.
