Trek 11 Tops MSNBC Most Anticipated Film of 2009

The author isn't exactly kind to the movie. Seems to have a lot of opinons based on something he hasn't seen yet...

Nice! I hope this movie is a real, bona-fide blockbuster even if the quality of the script isn't A+ level. We can take the new movie being a mild disappointment in terms of the story so long as it makes enough money and gets just enough positive attention to keep the franchise alive into the forseeable future.

It's funny how the author of that article wrote this about the Star Trek prequel:
"...there’s bound to be a been-there-done-that feel..."
While for Wolverine she wrote:
"...The prequel focuses on clearing up Wolverine’s cloudy backstory, revealing how he came to join Team X and sport those indestructible metal bits..."
So, are origin stories just a re-hash, or do they give useful information about the characters' pasts and their motivations

Well, he's certainly paid enough attention to the fan reaction to have picked up on the "Siberius" thing.
So someone spent a couple of minutes Googling for enough easily-found tidbits to bash out a capsule item. The StarTrek.com boards, a couple of TrekMovie articles, maybe here -- probably went from inbox to out tray in five minutes' time, tops, and they never even had to watch the trailer. It's MSNBC, right?

Whether it succeeds comes down to the new actors ability to make the old characters their own, as well the filmmakers ability to stay true to a story some consider sacred. There’s already debate on the latter point, as would-be watchers busy themselves dissecting the trailer (“Did that kid just say his name is ‘James Siberius Kirk!? It’s Tiberius!”).
 ROFL

The Timesonline rated ST the number 3 anticipated movie of 2009....but Harry Potter was first, and quite frankly its pretty much a known quantity and I doubt that ranking.

My most anticipated:

1. ST
2. Watchmen-A close second
3. Avatar
4. Transformers
5. Terminator Salvation
6. Wolverine
