Why So Little Superbowl Hype This Year?

So what is up with the Superbowl this year? Normally I hear a lot of hype and advertisements about it leading up to the event, but this year, nothing. I finally heard one person on TV mention it on the local news two nights ago.

I had no idea that it was even on this weekend until a couple of days ago when someone at work mentioned it. So why all the lack of hype? Do the teams suck this year or something? Do people not care about football this year because they have more important things to worry about? What is the deal here?

The economy being bad probably has a lot to do with it. I heard Goddell has a pretty somber State of the NFL Address on Friday.

I didn't even know it was on until Friday when I heard about it on the radio. Suffice to say, I won't be watching.

Because AZ sucks a lot and the Steelers are going to bury them. Probably by the first quarter. Also, football seasons suffer audience during election years. Especially this last one with all the attention that was on it.

I'm not sure..it's probably this economy for one thing. People are just too depressed to do anything, and thus not caring about TV, let alone the Super Bowl. I know a lot of people in my neighborhood are getting all hyped up about it. But you either love it or hate it. There's no in between. I'm not a football fanatic so I don't really watch it myself, but do watch the halftime show, as well as the commercials that come on every year. And I'm always watching the Puppy Bowl that comes on Animal Planet instead of the Super Bowl cause I just love animals. This year, they have some even cuter animals than they did last year. :D
I do wish, however, that people cared more about the Super Bowl but as our former mechanic used to say: you can't teach an old dog new tricks. People who don't watch TV don't get why others do. Personally, I'm not too keen on someone who doesn't watch TV and doesn't believe in even watching the news. I had a girl like that at my college..although she did own a TV, it was never on and she didn't like to watch TV at all. That to me, is a little strange. If you don't watch TV, what else do you do? Read?? Knit?? :shifty::rolleyes:
Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great Super Bowl Sunday with family and friends.

I for one am glad there hasn't been much hype about the Super Bowl. As a New Yorker, I did watch and reveled in the Giants upset of the favored (and much hated around here) Patriots, but I won't watch this year. Two places I don't care much for, Arizona and Pittsburgh, are featured. Still, it would be nice if there were an upset of the Steelers! -- RR

I, personally, am kidn of thankful. It's not something I overly care about. If anything, the hype almost makes me not want to tune in for a bit. I dont mind watching a bit of it but it's just not my thing. Especially since I have so much other work that needs to be attended to.

It's just not up there in the priorities and it gets annoying if it's all I hear about when I need to be stressing over something more important.

Probably because Arizona is playing...

I mean if Detroit was playing, none of the networks would even notice in time to reserve rights to air the game.

 Funny, I had no horse in this race. But after hearing some asshole upstairs from me stomp on the floor (which is, of course, also my ceiling) every time Pittsburgh scores, I hope Phoenix wins.

Not that I have anything against the Steelers. I just want that asshole to knock it off.

100 yard touchdown SIMPLY WOW

How come no running thread for superbowl ?

Yeah, I was wondering. I woldn've expected with Arizona's extreme underdog-ness there would've been a thread.

Yeah, that 100yd TD interception return was amazing. Arizona is getting its ass handed to it.

Now, if it were Detroit vs say, a shitty high school team, I'd watch. Just to see the Lions lose another game.
