Harry Mudd: The Lex Luthor of Star Trek?

In that Harry Mudd's a crook yet manages to be hilarious, sarcastic & the life of the party all at once

The Lex Luthor I'm thinking of is Gene Hackman's iconic portrayal.

Both Lex Luthor & Harry Mudd are recurring criminals in each series who seem to be honest about their dishonesty

If they could meet, who'd outcon whom? Or would they put their heads together & pull the crime of the millenium outfoxing Kirk & Superman

lex luthor would! lets not forget hes "the greatest criminal mind of our time"! he's also had the smart's to almost kill superman countless times!mudd has never been shown to be anywhere near as evil as luthor. we have never seen him kill anyone as luthor has.

Interesting idea. I never really linked Roger Carmel's Mudd to Hackman's Luthor. Hackman's character was so much meaner, and was genuinely interesting in causing others harm to get what he wants. Mudd, as seen in TOS, seemed much more focused on his own wants and needs but much less likely to endorse direct violence (although he would take steps that might put others in harms way).

True Hackman's LL caused more carnage/mayhem in the outside world than RC.C's HF.M. Yeah! Mudd, while a criminal, was a kinder, gentler class of crook than Luthor, all things considered.

Yet both manage to be jolly affable likeable comical dudes

Given the chronology, wouldn't it be more accurate to say that Hackman's Luthor was the Harry Mudd of the Superman film franchise?

Very true, all things considered.

Harcourt Fenton Mudd appeared twice on TV sets (over) a decade before Hackman's Luthor showed up on movie screens. And Mudd appeared again on TAS, about 5 years prior to Gene's Lex.

Lex Luthor is an immensely more sinister, megalomaniacal, destructive creep than Mudd is or would ever want to be.

But, despite their positions on a Richter Scale of Baddies, they're both recurring criminals talented at generating barrels of 's, serving sarcastic wit, & are not Herberts

I intended to mention in the opening thread how the late Roger C. Carmel's Harcourt predates Gene Hackman's Lex by over a decade, but forgot
