"G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra" trailer released

Even in a modern setting, Stephen Sommers needs to go all-out with over the top CGI.

Same here. At least the second part. I loved GI Joe when I was younger, but even then I viewed it to be campy and silly. From the casual-Friday uniforms, to Cobra Commander's voice, to how hundreds of guys just a few feet apart could unload torrents of gun...erm...LASER fire on each other and have no one go down. :lol: As a result the source material is a far cry from being sacred to me. The movie looks like it might be fun. If so, then I'm not going to decry it if it winds up being GI-Joe in name only.
 
Is this the sequel to Wanted?

As amends for making the Joe team international they took down the damned Frenchies' tower, now pass me the Freedom Fries.

Are there really people out there who are emotionally invested in fuckin' GI Joe? I don't know why that surprises me.

I am, and I have waited for a Joe movie for years. The trailer looks absolutely gorgeous! Sienna Miller really looks like the Baroness in this one!
 
I'm not big on the trailer but I was really into GI JOE as a kid so I'll go see it anyway.

My childhood is safe. Either way, it's just a movie and my memories are what they are. :)

Nah, it looks cool. Can't remember anything about GI Joe so might be a good refresher.
 
Will see this. Don't have high expectations but it looks to be a fun romp/
 
I really have no connection to the source material but it looks like it could be decent action. Plus Sienna Miller and Rachel Nichols are hot.
 
My knowledge of and affection for GI-Joe comes only from their crossovers with Transformers but I will probably go see this. I don't know how good it will be, but the action looks like fun. I don't like not seeing Destro's mask at all though, and one of those shots was lifted straight from Bay's Transformers movie - flipping through the street, avoiding rockets.

Really, all the characters look great. Snake Eyes in particular.
I thought Destro was visible in the shot where the Baroness is shooting, but she is flanked by two dudes with silver masks, so likely not Destro.
 
Unless you're referring to just with the silver mask, Destro is probably the most prominent character in the trailer. He's who Christopher Eccleston is playing.
 
This is one of those 80s franchises just slightly before my time (I can't wait for the early 90s nostalgia to start), so I don't have a bunch of fond memories of it. But it's a Stephen Sommers movie, so it'll probably suck.
 
Looks good enough from an "action movie" standpoint. Not being a dyed in the wool hard core Joe fan I'll be easier to please. I'm sure the hard cores are hating on it though.
