I haven't read any of them but was a big fan of DS9.
Are they what you'd imagined a good DS9 "sequel series" would be?

IMHO, the DS9 novels show a great understanding of and respect for the series, and follow its lead by letting characters grow and change, by introducing interesting new characters, and by intermingling different continuity arcs. It's obvious that the people involved are fans of the series and its characters, and that they take seriously the business of moving the story forward into new territory.
DS9PF is, I'll say it again, made of awesome. The books are great, the characters rock, the stories are interesting and a good take on the post-finale DS9, the development, the dialogue... *overload*
I don't think I've regretted a single book... it picks up on even the small things of DS9, the things we may have missed that really have fascinating stories... everyone grows, lose ends are tied up, etc etc etc...

Hell yes! It does an amazing job of moving forward the numerous arcs from the show, and introduces alot of new ones that are just as good. Plus, it fills in the gaps in the crew from the finale, with some absolutely great characters, my favorites being the new science officer the Andorian Thirishar ch'Thane, the new XO, the Defiant's new pilot Prynn Tenmei, and the Jem'Hadar observer character.
I think DS9R has been a great follow up to the series. I thought it was good right from the start. It picked up with the series left off, with a lot of the main characters gone and it didn't come up with some lame reason to get everyone back together. there's been great stories, great story arcs, good new characters, different styles of books from a variety of authors. i think they have been true to the series.
when you consider the volume and quality of books it's been better than the other relaunches by something like a couple orders of magnitude.
but there are times when i don't consider myself a star trek fan but a ds9 fan so i'm kind of biased...

I've got every season of DS9 on DVD, and I'd consider myself a pretty big fan of the series, but the relaunch novels don't do it for me. I have a couple and borrowed a few more from a local library, but have never managed to get into them.
I liked the start of the Voyager relaunch, and the Enterprise ones have been good, but DS9 hasn't worked for me.

Definitely! I've loved DS9 from the first episode, "Emissary." If you loved the plot twists the show was known for, you'll get those in the series. I have to say, as I've said before, the DS9 Relaunch was the best conceived and best executed series I've ever seen.
I always tell wary folks to read the two-part Avatar books. At that point you'll see new characters and old characters in new situations.
I'm always a bit jealous of people who haven't read the series because there are a lot of clever things you folks haven't read yet. Thumbs up for the DS9 Relaunch!
And I would have to ask...Did you start with the first book Avatar and read the books in order? Not that the books can't be enjoyed as individual volumes but they really work best of you read them in order. The TV series was the same way. If you have just picked up a couple of random books I think you should at least read Avatar pt 1 & 2 and see if that sparks your interest more.
To answer the original poster...I have rarely ever had as much fun reading books as I have reading the DS9PF books. Interesting new characters are brought in and old familiar faces develop. The stories are always interesting and I could hardly put them down when I read them. I somewhat envy you not having read them yet!

The DS9 relaunch really is great, the new characters are really well fleshed out to the point when watching an episode of DS9 a few weeks ago, i caught myself wondering where Vaughn was.
The ds9 relaunch books are really good at continuing where the series ended. There's alot of wonderful story witht he characters old and new both in the story arcs leading up to Unity and the story is compelling and you can't wait for the newest book in the series to come out. The prequel books the Terok Nor trilogy tells the backstory of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. They were my favorite series of books last year along with Fearful Symmetry and Ent Kobayashi maru and Myriad Universe the ds9 story by KRAD was really well written and one of my favorire stories in book 1 or 2 of Myriad universe books.
The Ds9 Relaunch adds to, compliment, continues, enhances and is completely worthy and worthwhile. It's been said a lot in this thread so far, so I'll simply say that not a single book in the series has been a letdown and it not only builds upon the show's foundation but enhances the experience.
The original characters feel as much a part of the Ds9 family as any on-screen characters and I find myself missing them at times when watching the episodes.
