...and I misspelled villain in the thread title....sigh...

Re: Who is the best Female Villian of the current era?

You also spelt Yvonne wrong in the poll options.

So, we think that Yvonne and Mercy are related?

Both of them did overcome cyber programming which really shows some genetic similarity.

Re: Who is the best Female Villian of the current era?

It's obviously Blon Slitheen, played by the inimitable Annette "Mrs Wobble the Waitress" Badland.

Yeah, she was pretty top-drawer, wasn't she? I, personally, am also over-swayed by the physical allure of Miss Hartman, Miss Foster, and Miss Hartigan...

Re: Who is the best Female Villian of the current era?

I voted for Blon Slitheen. I thought the scenes with her and Eccleston in Boom Town were fantastic, really very excellent. Anette Badlands is a favourite actress of mine, actually. I first saw her years and years ago as the secretary in Bergerac and I'm always pleased when she gets a role. I think that her acting talents might sometimes be overlooked because she isn't the most pretty woman in the world.

Quick mention for Miss Hartigan. I don't really like Dervla Kerwin, there's something about her that winds me up. However, I thought the way they had filmed her for the Christmas special, she looked spectacular. Also, I'm fond of another Hartigan so that might be influencing my opinion...

Re: Who is the best Female Villian of the current era?

Miss Hartigan, if only for the Mercy line in the graveyard. Blon slitheen a close runner up though.

I'd point out that Sky wasn't a villain, whatever posessed her was the villain...but I'm not that pedantic...oops! ;)

Re: Who is the best Female Villian of the current era?

Sky wasn't really the villain, rather the creature that possessed her was. But I suppose that's quibbling over details. :p

That being said, it's a toss between Mother of Mine/Sister of Mine and Miss Hartigan, until the end of that episode. Because of the over-the-top nature of the last quarter of "The Next Doctor," I have to give it to Mother of Mine/Sister of Mine, partially because the latter reminds me of the little girl in Remembrance of the Daleks (and not just because of the shared music).

Ah but for most of the last 15 minutes she wasn't Mercy Hartigan, she was the Cyberking and hence another character entirely so I'm keeping her vote in

Re: Who is the best Female Villian of the current era?

Naturally, I expected some of the more...detailed...posters here to point the Sky facts out. However, since you all realize I'm going for the entity controlling her (thus, it still being a "her") you understand why she's listed. :techman:

And yes...Mercy Hartigan is evil AND hot...

Re: Who is the best Female Villian of the current era?

Blon Slitheen was the best female villain, because in addition to being cunning, deadly, and highly villainess she did one thing none of the others could: She played a very engaging mind-game with the Doctor.

Her arguments for her life, while rejected by the Doctor, weren't completely without merit. He became more contemplative and regretful as she went on. She was a killer throughout all of it, even trying to kill the Doctor during their dinner (and kill everyone after it, as she had planned all along) but when she pleaded for her life she was true and frightened.

A real character, not just a caricature.

Blon was chilling and merciless, yet pitiable and in the end "What's To Be Done With Margaret" was a valid question.

I also liked that scene where the reporter lists all the mysterious deaths, and yet can't seem to realize Margaret was just killing all these people who discovered the nuclear reactor was intended to explode. She claims the guy who was decapitated "slipped" and one of them she just plain old ran over with her car. "It was dark and I had very poor visibility!" :guffaw:

If we want to get really quibbleful, we could argue that the creature possessing her was not necessarily a villain, either. It was obviously an alien intelligence with a vastly different type of mind that that of Humans and Time Lords, and full communication with it was never established. It's entirely possible that its killing of the crew was actually an accident as it tried to make contact with Humans.

Re: Who is the best Female Villian of the current era?

I think Blon Slitheen was the most interesting, as Bacl described so well in the previous post. Many of the others were too much "one note characters" for me to find them terribly interesting.

I'm in love with you.....................r avatar...
Chloe is special, isn't she?

Thanks boss! :techman:
As a brief aside, if you want a certain spelling corrected in the subject line, don't hesitate to PM one of the mods. It's a very easy change to make. It won't change the individual post subject lines, but it will change what shows in the index. Otherwise we'll leave it as is, since some of those "misspellings" could easily be intentional.

I'd say Sky/possesion creature thing as it seemed creepy. The Raknos never really worked for me (though I loved the episode) Cassandra and Blon worked well when they had their face turns and Mercy was probably the lease two dimensional, but suffered from being in an episode with a transformer.

So I voted Chrissy from Eastenders. I can't say I have a good reason. It's all about the cleavage. And boots.
