Battlestar Genesis: 2010

Battlestar Genesis; 2010

I am going to start my own Galactica fan-fic. I came up with this idea years ago, so its most likely that it might mirror other attempts, so if it does, I am going to apologize now.

My outline? It will take place in current time. The question always comes back to whether or not Galactica 1980 happened or not. I will acknowledge that they found Earth in 1980, but that’s about it. That it became apparent to Adama that Earth was in no shape to help at all, and ordered the fleet back out into deep space so as to protect Earth….but something (part of the story) happened between 1980 and 2010, which required elements of the Galactica ‘fleet’ to come back to Earth..for good.

And soon, the race will be on to find the Battlestar Genesis. I have always thought that the 13th colony came here with a Battlestar as well. And that Battlestar has been hidden…the Galactica survivors, and others, will soon start the chase to find it.

My story will not take place in the nuBSG universe, but the oldBSG universe….

BATTLESTAR GENESIS: 2010
Coming soon!!!

I applaud you for even trying to post a story dealing in any part, with Galactica 1980, seeing how hated that movie was by the majority of fans. Just keep the flying Viper-cycles hidden. :)

It'll be interesting to read... I look forward to it.

ha!..you and me both. I don't want to 'forget ' it, because I consider it canon despite what other fans thinks. The best I will do admit they came to Earth, and decided to move on. I wont even acknowledge the bionic kids or the flying viper-cylces. As for Dillon and Boxey? They wont be mentioned either..but I am bringing back APOLLO and I am bringing back STARBUCK...and some 'relation' to Baltar as well...

Will you have the annoying little kid with the super IQ overseeing the fleet?

Forget the Viper Cycles, and go with FLYING VIPER SEGWAYS :techman:

Good one...no, doctor ZEE or who ever it was will not be 'mentioned'..I'm just going to start the story and recognized the fact they found earth, they left earth, and then this 'event' happened which killed off all the people even remotely involved with that era..a simple throw away line..

I just want it to take place in the oldBSG timeline. And I know that Apollo wasn't in G-1980, but I can get around that real easily...and who knows, Cain might be around too...but I will focus on the hunt for the BATTLESTAR GENESIS..that is where the thrust of the story will be...

“There are those who believe, that life here, began out there….”

FATHERS and SONS

A fourteen year old boy ran across an empty field, chasing after the baseball his father had just hit into the distance. The sun had set already, and the dusk sky was dimming as the boy ran toward a large tree at the other end of the field. His father, wanting to make sure his son was alright, followed the quickly becoming young man. He became a little winded as he followed his son.

“I’m getting old for this,” the father, out of breath, told his son as caught up to the boy, who was now sitting beneath the tree where the ball had come to a stop.

“Nah,” the boy replied, “you’re just lazy. Just as mom always tells you.”

“Wait a second,” the man, Martin Bennett, said to his son. Martin sat next to his son, their backs up against the tree. “You’re supposed to be on my side.” Martin said to his fourteen year old son, Kevin.

“C’mon dad,” Kevin said, “you don’t go to the gym any more, and look,” Kevin said, pointing at his dads gut.

“Hey,” Martin told his son. “I’ve worked long and hard to get this small gut. A little toning, that’s all I need.” Martin said. “But I can still hit the ball pretty good.”

“Yeah,” Kevin said, “I thought I could slip a change-up by you.”

“Your change-up is getting better, son,” Martin said. “But remember, your arm motion is supposed to the same or it comes in as a flat fastball that even your sister could it.”

The two sat back and gazed back at their house. They lived on a two-acre plot of land in Andale Kansas. Sara, Martin’s wife, Kevin’s mom, was a local elementary school teacher. Martin designed software, and Kevin was the typical fourteen-year old who was starting to dream of the life ahead of him.

“This weekend,” Kevin said, “Mr. Winters is going to let me fly with him when he dusts crops over in Jacob County.”

“Yes, I know, and I wish I could come and see.” Martin said. “But I have a business trip to Los Angeles. But I promise I’ll look at the pictures as soon as your mom emails them to me.”

Kevin looked at the distance stars.

“Dad,” Martin said, “do you think there is life out there.”

Martin sighed. “I don’t know. At least, if Star Trek is true, they’ll all pretty much look like us but with different shaped heads.”

“Jesus Christ, dad,” Kevin said, “If there are any aliens they’ll either look like centipedes with blood all over them, or Angela.”

“First off,” Martin said to his son, “Stop cussing like that.”

“Jesus Christ isn’t a cuss word,” Kevin came back with.

“Yeah, well,” Martin said, “It is still disrespectful. Second of all, you’re twelve sister is at that age where if you say things like she looks like an alien, she’s gonna bitch about it to mom and then I have to bitch about it to you.”

“Dad,” Kevin said, “Bitch is a cuss word.”

“Yeah,” Martin said, “And I’m an adult and have earned the right to say it. When you turn eighteen you can say them too, but for now,” Martin said, “you’re just a fourteen year old kid.”

“You didn’t answer me,” Kevin said. “Do you think there are aliens out there somewhere, and do you think they’ve been here?”

Martin thought for a moment. “I don’t know,” Martin finally said. “It would be foolish to think we’re all there is.”

“You sound like Jodie Foster,” Kevin said.

Suddenly they heard Sara calling for them to come inside.

“Come on you two,” Sara called to them from the back yard. “You’re going to sick. I ordered some pizza, so get your butts in here.”

“We better go,” Martin said. “We don’t want her getting mad.”

“Yeah, I know dad, especially when it is her time of the month.” Kevin added.

Martin laughed. “You better not let her hear you say that, or believe me, you’ll be the one sleeping in the dog house.”

The headed back to the house, and looked forward to eating the pizza Sara had ordered.

--
Later that night, Martin kissed his wife, and removed her glasses. She had fallen asleep in bed while playing her DS game system. She had pretty much conquered Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader. He put her game system, and glasses, next to her on the light stand.

He went out into the house and made sure the doors were locked. He looked in on Angela, his daughter, and saw that she was fast asleep, and as usual, sleeping in a horizontal position across a vertical bed. He repositioned her, kissed her forehead, and then left her room and closed the door.

Martin looked in on Kevin, who also, was fast asleep. The walls of his son’s bedroom were no longer populated by superhero posters, but with scantily clad Maxim models. Martin looked at the brunette on the closet door, and nodded. His son had good tastes.

As Martin headed back to his room to get some sleep himself, he heard a beeping noise coming from his office room. It was a beeping sound he never thought he would hear again. He entered his office, and opened his closet. He reached up to the top shelf, and found the object. It was a small black box, and it was beeping. He pushed a button to stop the blinking light, and beeping sound. He pressed another button. A small microphone slid out, and pointed up.

“This better be good,” Martin said into the microphone.

And hello to you,” the voice said. “How have you been?”

“Just great, Liam. Now what was so important you had to contact me after all this time?” Martin asked.

There was a pause.

I have found another clue,” Liam said. “I think we are one more step closer to finding the Battlestar Genesis.”

“You’ve said that before,” Martin said. “And then we tired of your endless searching, and we all went our own ways.”

Yeah,” Liam replied, “but this time I think I have something. And, more importantly, I’m not the only who is searching for it.”

Worry came over Martin’s face. “Who else would be looking for the Genesis?”

I don’t know, but I thought you would find that part interesting.”

Martin nodded. “Yeah, I do. I will meet you in LA this weekend. Contact the others, but tell them to just standby until I see your clue.”

Martin closed the device.

What his Earth-born son, Kevin, didn’t realize was that his father, Martin, was actually an alien from space, and that he, Kevin, was half alien as well. If only he knew, Martin thought with a smile. But Kevin could never know the truth. Both their lives depended on it, as did his daughter Angela, who was also half-alien. In fact, the only one in the family who was really 100% human was Sara. And Sara had no idea that her kids were aliens, a fact that Martin was sure to piss her off, no matter what time of the month it was.

Dude...I'm at work..what are you trying to do, get me in trouble with such thoughts??? WINK WINK...oh and they will still be 'young' by the way...I have a unique twist that will allow our 70s chics to truly rise again!!

Sheba, Sheba, Sheba-hubba, hubba, hubba!

You know, its weird. My best friend is a Sheba-ite too...loves the ground she walks on. I gravitated towards Athena. And for some reason I think I saw Athena, and I mean ALL OF HER, in a horror movie from the 70s..cant remember...

And another thing about Sheba and her dad, Cain. I always had a feeling that the both of them were written, in that episode, as if something more was going on there. I know, its kinky to think that. But, I just watched the LIVING LEGEND last week, and i still come away with that feeling all those years later...

Galactica: Dead or Alive

Martin Bennett kissed his wife goodbye, hugged his two kids, and then boarded a plane in Kansas City Missouri. The flight took off on time, a pleasant surprise for all the passengers. By the time they landed in Los Angeles it would be 11pm in California. As the other passengers settled in for the long flight, Martin did as well. He closed his eyes and found himself looking back over long lost memories from what seemed a life time away.

Commander Adama listed to the Galactica’s chief medical officer intently. It had been just over a yarn (from this point on I will use standard time increments) since they had fled Earth. And, on this day, the last survivors of the failed mission to Earth died. Everyone who had gone down to Earth, including Adama’s step-grandson, had passed away due to microbes in the Earth’s biosphere that proved to be deadly to them. Adama sat in his quarters and listened to the depressing news.

“We can never go back,” Doctor Halbeck told a very grim Adama. “We were lucky to contain the fatalities to them. Earth can never be our home.”

“To think we’ve come this far,” Adama said to Halbeck, “Only to find that Earth is in no shape technologically to help in our struggle against the Cylons. And now we find that the world itself is poisonous to our very lives.”

“Adama, remember, these people on Earth,” Halbeck said, “have had thousands of years to adapt to this world. In fact, their tech level may be due to early diseases wiping out a large portion of those who made it here at the very start.”

“So what do I tell the people of the fleet,” Adama asked, rhetorically. “But no matter,” Adama said as he came to a decision. “We will continue on our course, and hope that what Cylons there are left, will follow us.”

Halbeck turned to leave, but then turned back to Adama.

“Commander,” Halbeck said, “my medical staff, and I, will continue to study the data we have on the microbes that killed Boxie and the others. Perhaps, eventually, we will be able to find ways to counter the effects, and return.”

Adama smiled at Halbeck’s attempt to hold out some glimmer of hope.

Alone, again, in his quarters, Adama stood up and looked out his view port. So much had happened in the past year. Once the decision had been made to leave Earth, Adama decided, in order to save Earth, he had to lure the Cylons closer to the Galactica, and bait them away from Earth’s star system. The plan had worked, but at a great cost. A massive Cylon attack destroyed twenty of the ships in the fleet. A fire on the Galactica herself left many dead, including women and children. But it was a burden Adama decided the fleet had to bare, in order to save Earth.

The gallant viper pilots, including many who had seen combat for the first time, repelled the Cylon attack, and since that time, the Cylons had not been seen. But, they were out there, somewhere. Long range scans had picked up Cylon transmission, no doubt scout ships trying to find the Galactica, and the fleet she protected.

So the old game, being chased across deep space, had become the norm again. At least until, Adama concluded, he could make another stand against their dreaded enemies. With nothing but memories to comfort him, Adama prepared for sleep.

--
Sometime later, Adama was awakened by the alert klaxon. He stood up from his bed, and turned on the monitor. Colonel Boomer’s face came on the screen.

“Report, Colonel.” Adama ordered.

“Commander,” Boomer said, “the strange lights have returned.”

Adama looked out his view port. Indeed, the strange balls of lights that they had encountered many many years ago; were again, zipping around the Galactica. So much had happened since they had last encountered the strange lights. Apollo, Starbuck, Cassidy, Sheba, and Athena had all perished. Earth had proven to be nothing more than false hope. And yet, suddenly, here they were.

“I’m on my way.” Adama said, as he headed to the bridge.

--
Moments later, Adama entered the Bridge. Colonel Boomer greeted him at the entrance.

“Commander,” Boomer said, “new information. A shuttle craft, one of ours, has just appeared from out of nowhere and is on an intercept course with the Galactica.” Boomer smiled as he told Adama, and Adama knew why.

Many, many, years earlier, Apollo was lost on a routine mission. Adama, just as he would a year later, in the case of Starbuck, decided they could not go back for Apollo. Starbuck, who had been injured during an earlier Cylon attack, was in coma, or would have demanded to go back for Apollo, at the risk of his own life.

With Starbuck out of commision, Sheba, Cassidy and Athena, took one of the shuttles and headed out on their own to find Apollo. They were never seen again, and then, a year later, Starbuck was lost as well. He, too, had never been seen again.

And now, all these years later, a long lost shuttle appeared out of nowhere, accompanied by the strange lights in space. Perhaps, at last, fate was turning their way.

Martin Bennett accepted a Diet Coke from the flight attendant, as he awoke from his memories. They were stories told to him by his father, Apollo. And though he had not witnessed most of them, they were still easy to imagine. He closed his eyes, having finished the soda, and continued to look back on the past.

I remember that episode. :)

ONE small suggestion, Robert... with your flashbacks, I would either write them in italics, or, I would start with for instance, "10 YEARS EARLIER", or "SCORPION FLEET YARDS - 10 YEARS AGO", to introduce, and then when the flashback is completed, use "PRESENT DAY", or "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - PRESENT DAY". If you simply write "FLASHBACK BEGINS" and "END FLASH BACK", it really takes me away from the story, and sticks out like a sore thumb... I want to feel as if the flashback is smoothly worked into the story, and not have it feel separate from it.

Again, it's just my two cents, and I don't mean any offense by it.

Think of it as if you were watching RAZOR... they used stuff like I wrote, not "Flashback Begins". Write as if you were writing a visual description, as part of an actual episode.

I like what you're doing-and extra kudos for killing off that obnoxious Boxey!

Thanks Mistral. Means a lot. And I so wanted to get back Apollo, and gang, as they were when we last saw them. In the next installment we will find out that they didn't age when they became passengers in the CITY OF LIGHTS (which we will be seen real soon two)

I killed of "Doctor Zee" too, Starbuck's son, and I didn't even have the guts to mention him by name.

Sorry if there are ZEE fans out there, but yikes..i cringe when I see him on G-1980...

Galactica: Dead or Alive II

As the United Airlines flight made its way over Colorado, Martin Bennett continued to look back into the past, and over the events that led to his being on Earth and how he was just one of several refugees from the Battlestar Galactica. So much time had passed since the events that brought them to Earth had happened. And, in the more recent time, Martin had let go of his past, content in his new life, and happy to be a father of two, and husband to a wonderful woman who had no idea of her husband’s true past.

Martin had decided long ago, when he first arrived on Earth, to prepare for a life as an Earthling. He had no choice. The Galactica, and the Pegasus with her, had sent Martin and several others, as and advance landing party. They had been sent to scout possible areas of the world where they could all come to, and find ways to assimilate into the society from there. But years passed, and more years passed, to where nearly three decades had passed since they had heard from either Battlestar.

Even though the first landing party (G-1980) had shown small health issues (obviously Martin’s group were sent before Boxey’s party had all perished after returning to the Galactica in 1980), Martin, and the others, armed with medicines from the Galactica, and help from a special human (more on that later) had lived, for the most part, long and healthy lives on Earth.

As he thought of those times, he drifted off into the land of memories….

Commander Adama, and Colonel Boomer, stood together in the massive landing bay of the Galactica. The long missing shuttle came to a stop, having just landed aboard the Galactica. Who was aboard the shuttle, and where had it been after nearly thirty five years had passed.

Several maintenance workers positioned a boarding ramp up to the door of the shuttle. And then, the door opened. Adama and Boomer held their breath, waiting in silence excitement to see who would come out first. And, with out hesitation, Sheba, Athena, and Cassidy, exited the shuttle.

“By the Lords of Kobol,” Adama said with a smile.

The three women, who had not aged a day since they had left, came down the ramp and hugged Adama.

“Where have you been?” Adama asked. “Before you answer, I should have you all arrested for leaving us like that, stealing a shuttle no less.” Adama said in mock anger, and then with a broad smile.

“Father,” Athena said, “look.” She said, motioning to the shuttle.

Then, walking out of the shuttle, were two more blessed memories. Starbuck, and Apollo. Adama’s eyes almost burst out of their sockets seeing the two legendary Galactica viper pilots. And, in the case of Apollo, his long lost son.

“This has to be one of the happiest days of my life,” Adama said as Apollo and Starbuck came down the ramp.

Adama instantly hung his oldest son, and shook the hand of Starbuck as he did so.

“It is good to you see you father,” Apollo said. Then he shook his head, “though, I think the beard could go.” Apollo said with a smile, in reference to the beard on Adama’s face.

“Apollo,” Boomer asked, “Where have you all been. So much has happened since we lost you.”

“And we will explain it all in time,” Apollo said with a smile. “But before we do that, I think we better show you another miracle.”

Adama, with a look of question on his face, smiled. “I think I have had enough miracles for one day.”

“Well, I hope not” A gruff sounding voice said from the boarding ramp.

Adama recognized the voice immediately.

“Cain!” Adama said, with a very bright smile. “I knew you could do it! Baltar lied to us.”

Commander Cain, who also had not aged a day since Adama had last seen him, walked over and hugged Adama as well.

“Well,” Cain said, “the explosion of the other Basestar may have masked our escape from Baltar. He may have though the other ship got us, but it didn’t. We spent over two years repairing the Pegasus, and by the time we were done, you and the fleet had long since gone on your way.”

“Why didn’t you try to contact us?” Boomer asked.

“And risk your safety, and ours?” Cain shook his head. “Since I pretty much knew what course you were on, I figured we would catch up to you eventually. Then we had entanglements with ships from Terra, just as you had.” Cain said.

Adama looked to Apollo. “I thought that Terra had found peace.”

“It did,” Apollo said, “But a faction of the Eastern Alliance broke away, and formed a colony in a near by star system.”

“A shame,” Adama said. “I had hoped that with their world on the verge of nuclear destruction, they would have found the inspiration for peace.”

“Well,” Cain said, “I don’t know about the others, I would love some of that Ambrosia of yours Adama.”

Adama smiled, “Yes yes,” Adama said, “I bet you do. Let us all meet up in my quarters and then you can tell me how it is you are all alive, and still so very young.”

It was rare when the Galactica had news to celebrate, and now it finally did.

The airplane landed at Los Angeles International Airport, and Martin reached up and got his carry on luggage. Liam had texted him a message on his cell phone as to where Martin could meet with him. Martin went through the Hertz rent-a-car center, and rented a car. The car was a 2010 Ford Mustang. All though not a Viper, which Martin knew how to fly quite well, it did have kick, for a land vehicle.

OK-you just bit off a lot. Now you'll have to explain the White Ships and where these people have been. Good luck!

Very perceptive, Mistral...not only do I have to explain where they have been, but these events happened somewhere in the past before Martin and the others made it to Earth and the modern day plot they will soon be under taking...so where are the Galactica/Pegasus now, in other words...
