But then reassembled by Bruce Maddox, whereupon he successfully petitioned the Federation Council to be defined as a sentient being with all the rights pertaining thereunto, as depicted in Articles of the Federation and referenced in Greater Than the Sum.
Well, I got my copy today.

These days the buck stops with Paula Block, CBS Consumer Products. All a proposal/manuscript has to do is convince her its a worthy idea. On the new movie, I'd guess she'd do this in consultation with a JJ representative. Rick Berman's no longer around for the rest.
No, the term "Supreme Court" is being used to refer to Abrams, Byrd, Lindelof, Kurtzman, and Orci, the writers and producers currently responsible for the ST franchise. Which is elementary, really, since the people making the shows or films are always the ones who decide what's canon. Paula's job is to make sure that licensed materials are consistent with canon, but it's the filmmakers who decide what the canon is.

No, he was just saying that he wasn't entitled to "rule" unilaterally on that without consulting the rest of the group.
Well, it's possible the books will conform to it anyway, if there's a good story that can arise from doing so, and if nothing arises that contradicts existing novel continuity in a way that can't be reconciled. Or maybe not. It's too early to say.
The issue was interesting...I hate the updated uniform, nothing wrong with the Dominion War uniforms as I call them or post First Contact if you will. The Enterprise looks like its gone through a refit as well from the brief glimpse we got on the final page. Spock is cool, and Nero's backstory seems interesting as well.

It came out today...yes. Local comic store didn't have very many copies left of it either which surprised me.

Overall, I liked the issue. Nero's backstory is interesting, though I thought Spock was a little too eager to engage in a mind meld with him.
I went to my local comic book store of choice as the guy working there was sorting out the new comics, and there were still only two copies of this issue...
...and I wasn't able to get a copy of KRAD's Farscape comic, either!
I too got my copies of the miniseries' first issue. Of all the comics I have read, only DC's Green Lantern topped it.
It was interesting to see how much of the prequel spent in the post-Nemesis time. I was interested to see Spock and Nero getting together.
I did enjoy the "our planet is doomed" stuff, although a couple of times I felt like he was Jor-El in the Superman stories.
The art was fun, especially since the same artist was in what I consider to the best of IDW Trek, Klingons: Blood Will Tell.
I have to admit that the last page leads to all kind of questions, which will hopefully be resolved in the next few issue.
