Have we ever seen the Others' toes? I know they used to go around barefoot, but I can't recall how clearly we saw them.....

Kind of moot anyway, since by the time we ended up seeing the Others' feet in season 2 they were already sort of a Hostile/Main-lander goulash.

Excelllent, I liked both a lot... it's back!! :D

Excellent and Above Average. Awesome stuff. I don't even know where to begin! Well, actually I do. The Marvin Candle scene was spot on and a fantastic way to begin the season. And then to see Fionula Flanagan at the end of episode two. Whoa. This is intense and I can't wait to see next week's episode.

In his initial appearances Mr. Friendly used a WWII era German Luger, I believe. Of course that might have been part of the deception.

Even if we've seen Others with five toes, the vast majority of them today aren't Native, but recruits like Juliet or captured/converted Dharmaites like Ben. Aside from Alpert, who actually IS a Native? I'm guessing Miss Hawking.

I think these are the season themes...

Season 1: The Crash
Season 2: The Hatch
Season 3: The Others
Season 4: The Rescue
Season 5: The Return
Season 6: ?

I give it Above Average and Above Average.

It wasn't all that mind-blowing as some older Lost episodes, but they were good and moved at a nice pace. They did however remind me how much Juliet annoys me. Can we kill her off already?

I also have to say that this season didn't have as strong an opening teaser as previous seasons.

Well, I'd argue it's better than Season 4's.

Hurley wrecking up LA in his Camaro was cool, but it doesn't compare to Drs. Chang, Faraday and The Donkey Wheel.

Who thinks that this is the different timelines on the island? Hmmmm...

RE: Juliet's hand...he was gonna cut off one, and then if they didn't tell the truth, cut off the other...

He said the first hand we're going to cut off to prove we're serious. So he didn't have foreknowledge of anything he was just a Dharma goon who was going to chop off her hand to get her to talk.

I think Juliet is a fascinating character who was criminally underused in S4. She was the second best thing about S3 after Ben as a regular.

I thought the opening scene was fantastic. Definitely better than S1 and S4. I dunno how I'd rank it against Desmond's and Juliet's openings, but it was certainly the most revelatory one. We learned Candle's background, true name, the purpose of the Arrow (something I've always wondered about) and the origin of the Orchid AND the fact that Faraday had travelled back in time to the 70s. Yowza.

After re-watching the first four seasons over again I was pretty pysched to have Lost back. That being said, I was a little underwhelmed.
There were a few nice aha moments and a few nice scenes, but otherwise, it felt pretty average and more a way of setting the stage for the rest of the season rather than a couple of power-house episodes.
It's definitely wonderful to have Lost back, but these episodes didn't do anything to blow me away like some of the season 4 stuff did.

I like Juliet too.
