FALLOUT 3 - discussion thread

So true. Fawkes is a great help. He pretty much kills everything (even though he wasnt quick enough one time and a Deathclaw got me near Vault 92). I am getting tired of him killing everything because I want a chance to do it, but then I get lost in building and I can hear a growl or a mutant or scavenger coming for me and I am glad he has my back. Does he ever leave or will he stay with me forever?
He stays with you until you dismiss him. Or basically forever :)

I just found out today that my SLI setup (dual 9800 GT) never actually worked in Fallout 3. :borg: I changed the setting to force AFR2 (from auto) and I got a nice increase in performance.

Which means I can now use the Fallout 3 High Definition Texture Pack and the HiRes Rocks mods. :D

See here for an example of the difference of the HiRes rocks:

Looks absolutely gorgeous now (I'm playing in 1920x1200 with 4x AA and 4x AF). :techman:

Jesus, that super high res looks amazing.

I have turned rogue. I have started going around killing everybody I can find. I killed everybody in Megatown and now I am rampaging through the Citadel blowing folks heads off with a shotgun. Once I am done with them I plan to go shoot up the radio station.

You can end up being unable to buy stuff, if you kill everyone. Or if you have low karma (and that's your case), no one will sell you anything or will sell at insane prices.

BTW, if you kill everyone at Citadel, you'll probably won't be able to finish the main quest.

You can't kill the vital characters at Citadel. Trust me, I know.

But that's no fun  It's like the game protects you from not finishing it :)

I wasnt able to kill the main characters in the citadel. I have run into a few traders who acted funny toward me so I killed them. I was able to get stuff off of them. I got so many guns and health aids now that I can last a long time. Plus I stached items all over the place. I also still have Fawkes who does most of the killing for me. I esepcially like him when I am walking around in the dark in between locations. He is quick to kill scorpians and other freak animals that I dont even know are there.

Are you using a mod? I thought Fawkes only stays around if you have positive karma. By the way, I think Fawkes was a girl before she became a super mutant.

I figure since it's kinda hard to tell now, since the FEV removed all female physiological distinctiveness, that it's perfectly acceptable to call Fawkes 'he' :D

with regards to the main quest, the point of no return is where the BOS are about to send Liberty Prime and the troops towards the Jefferson Memorial

has anyone been to the Dunwich Building? I thought that unmarked sidequest was pretty cool in a Lovecraftian sort of way

What was the quest part of that? I've been to the building, killed a lot of ghouls, but never fully cleared it or explored it. I think I might have been pretty injured by the time I got to the lower levels so I took off and never got around to going back. What happens? What's the "quest"?

You can listen to some recordings in the building of what's going on. It starts off as just an introduction in to some new system that automatically writes out what a person says, but as you listen you can hear how things degenerated in the building.

FYI- The comics building is a complete waste of time. There is only one comic book in the ENTIRE place (which is not small), and nothing else that I remember of value. There are, however, traps and enemies.

^
I think that's quest related, but optional.

I was disappointed with the ending of that bit... it was a let down considering all the buildup.
