Will Pine and Quinto replace Shatner and Nimoy on the covers?

If the film is a hit will pocket books replace Shatner and Nimoys image's with quinto and Pine.Would paramount tell pocket books to put Pine and quinto on the TOS novels. Is it possible that a novel being planned or written now with the writer thinking of Shatner and Nimoy when writing the dialogue could find out that Pine and Quinto are on the cover instead of the original actors.Does anyone know what pocket books plan for the issue?Or are they waiting for the film to come out before deciding.

^ Well, the first TOS novel coming out after the movie is Troublesome Minds by Dave Galanter, and it's got Leonard Nimoy's mug on the cover.....

Well, it would appear that the movie probably creates an alternate timeline of some sort, so I imagine if they set books in the new timeline, they'll have Quinto and Pine, and if they set books in the old timeline, they'll have Shatner and Nimoy.

But really, no one will know until the movie comes out and next year's books are announced, so just hold your horses :)

I've been wondering if we could pretend that this is an alternate timeline where everyone's gametes combined just a bit differently, explaining their different faces and voices. That's actually quite credible; the same procreative act, if it happens twice, would almost certainly lead to different combinations of sperm and egg, so the different versions of the "same" person should be non-identical. However, there's too much precedent of alternate-timeline copies who are identical to the originals, so it'd be hard to justify an exception.

I love how hard you try to come up with reasons to explain everything, but I think this might be pushing it just a little.

The artists should mix it up: Pine, Nimoy, Pegg and Saldana. Then one with Shatner, Urban and Yelchin and Takei. Every once in a while toss a Pine/Shatner or a Pegg/Doohan cover just to keep things lively.

I know, but it's fun to play with ideas.

And there is a bit of precedent in Sliders. In that series, the characters travelled among parallel timelines and constantly met their own doubles (who, by an amazing coincidence, were usually the most important people in the whole world). Once, the hero Quinn Mallory met a "double" who was the female version of himself, born with two X chromosomes instead of a Y (played by the actress who was later Tal Celes on Voyager, IIRC); and in the final season when the lead actor left, Quinn was replaced with a "fraternal twin" double, a child of the same parents but with a different genome.

It's also a major element and plot point in the Red Dwarf episode Inquisitor

Sometimes

If it's a 'new continuity' book it will be Quinto and Pine on the cover, if it's an 'old continuity' book it will have Nimoy and Shatner on the cover.

The movie will be a BIG hit and gradually we will have more 'new continuity' books.

That sound right?

It sounds plausible. Except I'm not sure about the pace of "new continuity" books increasing that quickly. When new Trek material is in production, it can have an inhibiting effect on tie-in fiction in that particular series, because of the risk of contradiction by future installments. That's why there weren't a lot of Enterprise novels while Enterprise was on the air.

On the other hand, ENT was never hugely popular. If the movie is a big hit, there might indeed be a call for more movie-continuity books. But they'd pretty much have to be old-style standalone adventures that did their best to avoid conflicting with future movies. And as past experience shows, even then it's hard to avoid being contradicted.

On the contrary, I really like this idea. :) I've often wondered what I'd be like if my little cells had joined even an hour or two after they did.

That being said, I personally think it's way too early to even be planning on books set in this continuity. There might be a novelization, but it remains to be seen if any new stories could be told or if anyone out there even wants them to be told.

If it does, I hope they divide the continuities. I'd even be on board for a Universe-A, Universe-B kind of thing, like they do in comics.

Remember, the TOS crew in JJ's film are supposed to be a few years younger (at the very least) than their apppearences in the show.

And...frankly? The pic of "Young Kirk" on Diane's Best Destiny more closely resembles Chris Pine than Shatner...if only because his face is more slender....

Wow-that's a universe very far from ours in the multi-verse! or, to put it another way, even for science fiction that's a pretty far-fetched idea.:guffaw:

Well, but as Pine ages, he's not going to become Shatner, so it's kind of a silly argument.
