American Idol, Season 8: Auditions

American Idol begins its eigth season tonight on Fox with the usual round of auditions.

So here we go.

This season brings us a four-judge panel, adding Kara DioGuardi an American songwriter and record producer.

At the time of this posting, it's too early out here in California, Trekker. But I was surely surprised when I heard the ad on the radio this morning.

Auditions have been so-so, I really like the new judge, now we just need to axe Paula.

I really liked the "Barracuda" girl in the begining.

I always watch the auditions but I've yet to actually closely follow the competition.

Was it me or did Seacrest look stupid trying to extend a highfive to a guy that couldn't even see?

Seacrest didn't even tell the guy till after he left his hand hanging out waiting for the guy to slap him back.

The bikini girl bit was hilarious. She was... "good" but only got through because she was hot and in a bikini.

And you're not fooling anyone, Ryan, you're gay and you know it.

Barracuda girl was really the only one that stood out to me, I didn't think the guy with the huge 'fro was *too* bad, I think his 'image' mostly did him in. Also thought red-haired girl was really cute but not much of a singer.

The roughneck guy was pretty good but, I guess, I was expecting more of a country vibe from him.

Bikini girl's snark on the new judge was pretty funny.

Can we PLEASE get rid of Paula? Pretty please? Hot Producer chick is much better!

The bad/humorful tryouts tonight we're okay. They're holding back on us.

Though the odd singing guy was kind-of funny but I think I'm over the bad singers as ever since I'd say the second season people seem to go on there and do bad, then act surprised when they're turned down, just to get on TV so I think it's lost some of, whatever it had, "charm."

Even Simon's snark on it isn't as much fun anymore because he knows this is the case.

I saw this too and thought he looked really lame; didn't even try to hide it well.

And when Bikini girl went looking for Ryan to 'make out' with him, and they sang "I kissed a girl" by Katy Perry, my 12 year old even thought that it was because SHE was kissing Ryan!

Paula seems a little tuned down this year, and Simon is right- he can't get a word in edgewise with the girls around.

I think that was pretty funny.

On Paula being "toned down" someone must be keeping her more medicated than normal.

I think Paula's here to stay.....Simon loves her, craziness and all. The way he talks about Kara ("she talks all the time", "it's always been us 3 and now there's 4") makes me think that he knows that Kara was brought on to eventually push Paula out and Simon doesn't want that at all.

I missed about the first half of the show, but I have to say Kara is a welcome new addition. She's cute, too. I don't mind Paula staying; I think she and Kara have different personalities anyway, with Kara having more useful input or feedback.

Some of the auditioners are crazy and funny, but most of them are fake anyway and they know it! The gay-looking guy "singing in the closet" has a surprisingly good voice. When I see a handicapped person (like the blind guy) on a reality show like this, it makes me think they're just playing for sympathy. Sorry ...

Looking forward to the next one.

Bikini Girl couldn't sing, but she had a great body

Don't know her name, but that one 16 year old girl, in the blue outfit who was very happy, I think she was great and has a lot of potential.
