Random question/comment about the cover to the upcoming The Soul Key

Re: Random question/comment about the cover to the upcoming The Soul K

It was also in the story "Bajor: Fragments and Omens" from Worlds Of Deep Space Nine, Vol. 2. and in Fearful Symmetry.

Cool, thanks. Just happens to be two of the books buried in my stack of to-read books. :)

Yes, the 'storyteller' from the TV series has importance right now in the DS9-Relaunch novels.

Re: Random question/comment about the cover to the upcoming The Soul K

I had to rewatch it as I couldn't remember it to save my life. And it tbh is not one of my favourite episodes. But I'm glad the books have kinda made something out of it.

The paghvaram was also mentioned in Terok Nor: Night of the Wolves.

Re: Random question/comment about the cover to the upcoming The Soul K

Its nice to see it on a cover. Speaking of Bajoran artifacts and things from DS9's first season, has anything been done in DS9 literature with the piece of jewellry that Opaka gave to O'Brien for Molly in "Battle Lines"?

Also Memory Beta has a good article on the paghvaram:

I agree, but it'd be nicer to see it on a cover that didn't look like it was put together in about ten minutes.

I have no problems with the usage of the bracelet - it's been a big part of the plot. Likewise with the wormhole, which seems to be the key to the whole thing. It's that horrendously fake looking hand that ruins it for me.

Re: Random question/comment about the cover to the upcoming The Soul K

I have a feeling that the hand (and the wormhole) will be replaced. I'm pretty sure that we haven't seen any final covers past Troublesome Minds. Both Losing the Peace and The Soul Key look like stand-in covers. On the other hand, The Never Ending Sacrifice looks like a final.

(This may be my subconscious desire that they REALLY REALLY do something about the cover of Losing the Peace. The background is cool, but Picard and Worf don't look good at all.)

That's one of my favourite things about the DS9-R - that it has taken things from early DS9, from the stage where the show was still figuring itself out and hadn't really got into its groove yet, and retroactively made them seem as integral to the plot as anything that came later. It's clever work to be able to do that.

It was mentioned in Lesser Evil, but only as a way of remininding the reader of the existence of Opaka, to set us up for her return at the end of the book. Nothing was really "done" with it, per se.

Kinda so-so on that cover. Hopefully the final looks better.

Me too! Things I never thought about, passed over... now its back, and in an interesting way, not a grabbing for ideas way.

I'm glad the hand is... IIRC, kinda transparent. I admit it looks a little wonky, as so far I've liked the DS9PF covers quite a bit. But as someone above mentioned, maybe its not the final cover. I kinda think that if you could see space, and a smaller wormhole, maybe it would look a bit better... not sure. But that one isn't bad, and I like the different colour- a lot of the spines are brown... I need something else!

I don't like the cover at all. I think it looks too much like the work of a highschooler. I find it hard to believe that this is the best cover Pocket could come up with.
