Exactly as titled, what would be the probable outcome of a Starfleet vs Mirror Universe war?

Assuming the Mirror Universe is the same as modern Starfleet, but with obviously darker motives, who would win?

Ill start off by saying 'our' Starfleet would likely prevail, but not by military means .The method of victory would be either political destabilization ,or new science that removes the MU ships and prevents further incursion.
In the meantime, you'd have a very bloody war I'd imagine.

If by "modern", you mean right after the end of Voyager, then I still need to know: who got the drop on who?

If the MU got the drop on the regular Federation, then they might manage something - their infiltration would be a lot more effective than the Founders, and if caught acting strangely (for the people they're supposed to be), they'd probably get tested to see if they were Founders and then given a pass, since they aren't.

If the regular Starfleet got the drop, then I see them trying infiltration and failing, and then kicking the crap out of the MU fleet militarily when their infiltrators are discovered. The MU fleet would have a more militaristic bent, in general, but the regular Starfleet has allies - Klingons, Romulans, etc. - and the full support of the non-Terran population. They'd overwhelm the Empire in sheer numbers.

I'd have to say that the Mirror Universe would have to make the first move,as Starfleet wouldn't have any reson to attack the MU,but the MU using entrenched spies before hand wouldn't be their M.O.,not when they can just build a huge fleet and send it to 'our' universe in force.

Starfleet might preemptively attack the MU Starfleet, if they had either intel that indicated that the Imperial Fleet was building up in preparation to invade them, or if Starfleet had established strong diplomatic relations with another of the MU civilizations (say, the Mirror Dominion), and they were under attack by the Imperial Fleet. Or maybe just for raw humanitarian reasons, if they had the time and resources available.

As to the Terran Empire just building up a huge fleet, remember that they don't have access to all of the resources that Starfleet does. Ruthless conquest doesn't get you cooperative, willing partners who will fully utilize their tech and other resources for you. It gets you portions of your conquered population in open revolt, and unenthusiastic slaves. Not to mention border worlds that would be part of the Federation in the regular universe, but have run to the Klingons, Romulans, Bajorans (Cardassians?), Tholians, or Breen - possibly even the Mirror Dominion (or the Mirror Borg, but it's hard to imagine that working well, depends on the nature of the Borg there) - for protection from the Empire in the MU.

And the Mirror Universe Saga in DC Comics back in the 80s, as well as Smiley O'Brien's behavior on DS9, would humbly disagree with your assertion that the MU Empire using infiltrators would not be in keeping with the M.O. of MU Terrans. ;)

If they did that they would lose as they would have no idea about the strength of Starfleet, force dispositions, defences, etc. Wining a war is more then just who has the most ships.

i said star feet! the mu people does not know to act good. where we can act evil in the mu as seen in the tos mirror. mirror take care love drychlick

Let me clarify.I don't mean to say they won't use spies at all.The point I'm making is that they won't use long-term intel operations that keep spies under for long periods of time, like the Dominion did with impersonating Alpha Quad leaders.

Since the MU would have 'distance' on its side being, after all,in another universe they can build up arms anywhere in 'their' universe for a suprise assault without Starfleet knowing-until its too late.

And all the mirror universe would need to know is a good place to start attacking, and how to duplicate our Starfleet markings +insignia to confuse native ships.

Back in the '80s, DC comics had a storyline in their Star Trek comics that the Mirror Universe attempted an invasion of the Federation during the time between Star Trek III and Star Trek IV. It did eventually become a showdown between Starfleet and the Mirror-Starfleet, but the Federation didn't even see it coming and would have been caught totally by surprise.

Thankfully, they had Kirk...

I think MU would have the initial advantage. I would guess they have a much stronger military since they are more the conquering type anyway. But that would probably make them arrogant, which would eventually bring them down.

The Allience was defeted by a pretty small force on Terrans, consider if the full force of the Federation on a war footing was let loose, my vote goes to a full Federation victory...

The Terran Empire is actually a pretty stupid empire - they behave like undisciplined space pirates, encouraging people to turn on their superiors in order to gain rank. That's a great way to sow organizational chaos and in-fighting that will make you very ineffective in a battle. Imagine a captain trying to fight a battle while worrying who's going to knife him in the back.

I'd expect the better-disciplined Starfleet to beat them handily. Starfleet is also much better at gaining allies because they don't run around beating up on everyone (usually).

An empire like the Dominion or Borg, in which loyalty to the chain of command is not just encouraged but also inherent in the species, is the type that would have the greatest advantage and pose the biggest threat to Starfleet.
starfleet because they've got people who're more likely to be innovative thinkers
The Terran Empire wouldn't be bad at creative thinking. They're like Starfleet, only selfish, undisciplined and ruthless, but I could see them being creative and smart in their scheming.

Depends which era is your preference...

Even late into the 22nd Century, Starfleet definitely couldn't survive against its counterpart in the Mirror Universe. Consider also how they've probably taken apart that 23rd Century Defiant vessel by now, and are well on their way to using the tech on ships more advanced than the NX class.

Now if only Empress Hoshi could get her shit together and get over there before Nero does... especially if screwing up the timeline has become the aim of the game.

I figure that ship is probably how they managed to get on par with the regular Starfleet in Kirk's time - otherwise, in-fighting and such would have put them behind.

The Terran Empire is so ruthless that I think Starfleet wouldn't stand a chance.

The dominion was ruthless too, and had better technology. Starfleet, and the rest of the Alpha Quadrant was majorly outgunned thanks to the dominions cloning facilities. But Starfleet and the Alliance won.

Yes, it was a long, arduous battle. Many lives were lost, and I see a war with the MU going a similar way.

Star-Fleet.
They have the advantage regardless of how you look at it.
They are more technologically developed for one thing and have a far larger force in comparison.
A direct all out war would end in defeat of the Imperial SF.

Remember that MU rebellion had to steal technology from regular universe SF to begin with.
The Alliance was also surprised at the new kind of torpedoes that came with the mirror Defiant for example.
After that we haven't really seen anything innovative from MU.
Regular SF engineers/technicians are familiar with a vast scope of things.
They could have devised their own inter-dimensional transporter if they wanted to.
But as we all know, even though the Feds are aware of certain techs, they don't actually USE them (although to be completely frank they would be wise to devise a defense against them).

I think the mirror universe fleet would win initially and they would come into our universe take over the entire Alpha Quadrant and enslave all the races which inhabit it. Then I think starfleet and other races would form a resistance movement. I think it would take many years but eventually they would overthrow the mirror universe.

I think it'd be a lot of fun. One of the many fan fics I haven't written deals with an invasion via the DS9 Wormhole, preluded of course by espionage and sabotage.

Star Fleet would stand a very good chance; the good guys work together far better, and they're better at pretending to be savage than the savages are at pretending to be civilized (to paraphrase MU Spock).

MU infiltrators would probably be very successful until the Federation became aware there were MU infiltrators, then their strange behavior would be understood and identified.
