Small Update on 2010 Book-Plans

Suffice it to say that there is no reason not to read them in publication order, or really, in any other order you like.

I enjoy reading things in chronological order when possible, so any insights would be appreciated. I'm sure i'll enjoy them either way:bolian:

It doesn't really matter what order they're in, since they're telling separate stories. If it mattered, presumably they would be getting released in order.

I'll give some hints, though:

Full Circle covers the longest span of time, A Singular Destiny the shortest.

Every one of the four books except ASD contains at least one storytelling jump forward of greater than two months.

Every book except ASD has at least one scene set before the epilogue of Destiny.

Two of the books end on the same day. A third ends just a few days later, but for unconnected reasons.

Two of the books begin within a week of each other. Only one is a book I mentioned in the previous paragraph.

Pretty cryptic. That will take some deciphering:vulcan: From some of your clues, i'd say these books, including their 2 month jumps, take place over only a portion (less than half?) of 2381.

...I can't wait for these books:drool:

Well, Full Circle begins in 2378 and covers portions of 2379-80 as well. Aside from that, let's say somewhere between a quarter and a half of 2381 is covered.

Sweet! Does that mean the Typhon Pact arc will take place in 2381:vulcan:? I'm guessing a year in our time doesn't correspond to a year in the treklit-verse...

With the caveat that the real answer is really "We have no frapping clue yet," probably, yes. :D

I don't know, since that arc hasn't been plotted yet. It might or might not be. Remember, there will be other 24th-century books in between the post-Destiny tetrad and the Typhon Pact books, including Kirsten's second VGR novel and James Swallow's TTN novel. Just because these occasional arcs exist doesn't mean they're the only things happening in the 24th century.

Right. For some reason the second half releases for 2009 slipped my mind. I guess i'm just excited about another multi-ship arc. I really dug Destiny and earlier stories like Gateways where lots of familiar faces work together. :bolian:

What I'm hearing is coming sounds very promising, especially the Typhon Pact. I wonder if it will contain any races we already know about or new ones. I've always been intrigued by the idea of an anti-Federation. The Dominion was something like that, but not quite.

it would be nice to revisit the K'vin Hegemony and the Daa'vid, those old Federation allies

Also, if Full Circle is twice as long as Losing the Peace, and Over a Torrent Sea leaves Earth for the Klingon border at the same time at warp 6, then A Singular Destiny equals x. :p

Are the 2009 post Destiny books considered part of the series, or are they more of a lead in like Greater Than the Sum was for Destiny?

This is really insulting, JD. GTTS was a novel unto itself, not just a lead-in to Destiny. And Losing the Peace, Over a Torrent Sea, Full Circle and A Singular Destiny are more than just lead-ins to a series that only got announced yesterday. Why express such a dismissive attitude toward anything that you can't slap a label over?
Wow, I'm sorry, I did not mean to be at all dismissive or insulting, I was simply trying to understand the relationship between the post-Destiny books, and the Typhon Pact stuff. Again, I completely and wholeheartedly apologize.

Neither. They're the books that grow out of the events of DES, and the Typhon Pact books, in turn, grow out of some of them. Each of the 2009 books is its own distinct entity: the next TNG novel, the next TTN novel, the next VGR novel, a standalone astropolitical novel. Each explores how its respective series and characters are affected by the overarching events of DES, but they're all primarily continuations of their respective series (except for ASD, though that's a continuation of threads that aren't connected to a single series), and they each tell a separate story about the DES aftermath. (They aren't even published in chronological order.) And they introduce new threads which will be developed in later books, including the Typhon Pact metastory.
Ah, now I understand the relationship.

I'd love to see some of the members of the Typhon Pact (if it is federation-like with members worlds and not conquered worlds) be some of the races we hardly see or see only in one series, or some forgotten worlds...The Daa'vid, The Selelvians, The Danterii, The Tholians...maybe even someone like the Remans:techman:...we'll see...

Something else: Who is Arne Darvin? I am not very familiar with TOS.
He was the assistant to Undersecretary Nilz Baris in "The Trouble with Tribbles" who was, in truth, a Klingon spy. His older self went back in time to try to redeem his disgrace in "Trials and Tribble-ations." In both episodes, he was played by Charlie Brill. And given the time-travel shenanigans of "Trials...," it's rife for a MyrU story, wouldn't you say? :D

Actually, it's more of a Nilz Baris story. And it's not a comedy . . . although it does have its humorous moments. I hope! :D

I'd just like to ask a question of those writers here who are going to be involved with all these books: could you please stop writing such good books, especially ones that revive my flagging-to-nonexistent interest in certain series? You lot are going to make me go completely broke!

Well, I know I'll be doing my part.

Way ahead of ya...

I got back from my holiday and I find that there are more books I want, jeez people, I need to build my bank account back up.

And so far I see nothing bad regarding TSK... no delays... no kidnapping of the author along with the only copy of the manuscript...

*breathes*
