Our society has gotten increasingly tech oriented to the point where we take many things for granted without contmplating life without them.

But I'm just old enough to recall life without many of the devices we're now surrounded by and accept without question. That said I still haven't availed myself of all the hardware available today. And some I even resist.

But are you a gadjet oriented Jetson or a diehard Flinstone? Mind you a true Flinstone wouldn't have any of today's tech, but you could still qualify by having only a few of today's hardware items.

And just for fun how many of the listed items do you have, and what do you think you could or could not live without?

It's interesting that in the past I've resited some tech, like CDs, that I eventually embraced. But CDs are now passe and I love having the convenience of a USB flash drive (which I just realized I stupidly forgot to include in the poll.)

Note: obviously I'm overlooking some gadget(s), but I've tried to list the most common ones.

I really like the convenience of an iPod. No more CDs or cassette tapes and trying to decide which to bring with you. You can carry your entire music library with you anywhere and have it all at hand immediately. In many respects enjoying your music has never been better than it is today.

I also really enjoy my 32" Samsung LCD TV and DVD player/recorder. It's no longer quite such a disparate difference watching things at home in comparison to the movie-going experience. Indeed in some ways going to the movies isn't as good as watching a movie at home on your nice TV. And if you have a big screen of 40ins. or bigger than you're really living.

While I don't embrace everything that comes along (such as GPS) I admit that for someone of my generation and age (49) much of the tech were getting is the realization of ideas we read or saw in SF many years past. When the LCD TVs first came out about eight years or so ago I vividly recall thinking, "Wow! the viewscreen of the Enterprise has finally arrived."

I call my iPhone the "miracle device". There's very little it won't do and it seems to do everything it does exceedingly well. I cannot, however, envision spending a grand on a TV set right now. I like TV but not THAT much. I admit to being slow to adapting new tech. I need to see something perfected before I'll buy it. I probably won't be on Blu-ray for another few years yet.
Oh look, my iPhone is making dinner! I love how it doesn't hog the TV to watch Food Channel for hours like my ex-wife did. What a great little device.:)

I prolly threw off the numbers for the bluetooth cellphone thing because I have a bluetooth headset for my wireless telephone but I don't have a cellphone. :)

I only have the following

DVD player (actually we have three)
Desktop computer (we have two)
A 3-in-1 printer/scanner/photo copier
Cordless phone
Digital camera (two)
Microwave

My son (who lives with me) has

Gaming consoles
Cell phone
MP3 player
Portable CD player

I'm kind of a Jetson. I love their Retro Future and I wish I could live in something similar. However, I do avoid communication devices like cell phones; I don't want to be in touch 24/7 anymore. I suppose I'll have to get one someday, though.

Here's what I own right now:

VCR
DVD
Boombox
Personal Desktop Computer
Laptop Computer
Printer
Scanner
MP3 Player
Portable CD Player
Digital Camera
Microwave
Electric Shaver

Xcept quality wise of course; those heavily compressed sound files can be a real horror to listen to.

I probably won't be on Blu-ray for another few years yet.
And by then it'll all be over: Blu-ray is too little too late; the future (in a couple of years) belongs to HD's, solid state memory devices and streaming video on demand…

I don't want to be in touch 24/7 anymore. I suppose I'll have to get one someday, though.
This x-mas season I went to a market with a friend, left the phone at home because when I'm with someone in RL the phone could only become an intrusion… But then, all of a sudden, we were apart and couldn't find each other  -Had I had the phone in my pocket we would have found each other right away. I'll never leave home without the phone anymore.

I didn't check "Home Theatre System" b/c I'm not really familiar with the term, but if it means a video set-up with more than two speakers I should have.

I got rid of my printer last year (after not having used it for a couple of years) but am currently contemplating getting a new (better) one though.

My old (Philips 16:9) TV works just fine and I'll probably not need a new one till the OLEDs come in affordable decent sizes.

I might get myself a dishwasher this year, but as I'm living alone I really have no need for one.

My PC is a BUB that I've hidden away in a cupboard. But I will get around to buying one of those solid state micro-laptops (whataretheycalled?) this year!

The one thing I really think is missing from the list is a battery operated radio controlled (alarm) clock.

Actually I do have a dishwasher. His name is Marcus but most of the time he has to be coaxed to do the dishes and he isn't around to do the dishes after breakfast.

Me, I just get by with what I have, only to upgrade when the time is right. Need Internet to speed up life? I got your Internets here. Digital TV switchover? May as well else could end up without for a bit. Cassette player going out of demand? Never mind, we'll try those newfangled CDs people keep talking about. Mobile telephones and satnav, the work of the Devil no? Well, if I get stuck in the middle of Arsetown, Gloucestershire with no means of escape, I can now call for help and find my position. And so on...

Plasma TV
Blu-Ray player
Personal Desktop Computer
Printer
Cellphone
Hair Blower
Cordless Phone
MP3 Player (that I never use)
Camcorder (2 actually)
Microwave

I'll never use an electric toothbrush because my teeth were in agony for the entire week I had one five years ago. I'll never use an electric razor either, my facial hair is too stubborn, and I'd have eternal five-o'clock shadow, even in the morning.

The Flintstones had plenty of gadgets too, they were just dinosaur-powered. :D

yabut, dinos and peoples never existed at the same time unless you count gators and such.

You lie. I saw it on TV.

I once saw that you can detoxify your body with pads you stick to your feet overnight and some Caribbean woman can tell if someone's cheating on you from a conversation on the phone.
