Today is my husband's birthday. Last night I made him a banana cake which is what his mom always made growing up and he wants every year.

For me, we always used to go down to Dairy Queen to pick out an ice cream cake complete with design. Every year I crave one as soon as July comes around.

What about you? What cake do you want the most for your birthday?

I thought I'd share the really um interesting looking cake I made:

^^ Nice. I bet he loved it.

For me, it's not the cake, it's the breakfast. I always have a big birthday breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash browns, corned-beef hash, toast, pancakes and orange juice. Then cake. I generally don't need to eat for a week afterward. :D

This is the cake my friend made for me. :D It's a chocolate fudge cake and it's powdered sugar on top. ;)

I haven't had a birthday cake in YEARS. I'd be happy with whatever I got.

Although....part of me REALLY wants this:

Didn't have any delicious cake this year because of the deadly spikes. :(

I'll just have a pretty one. It should be a piece of cake to bake it, though, if cooked by the book. :D

Eclair cake has been a recent tradition for my birthday in recent years.

A cake made of money. I doubt I'll be getting one next week, though. :(

But then someone would have to stab him in the eye, cut him up and serve him.

    Getting there -but slowly.
When I was a kid I called it mum's concrete cake, but these days I have sort of developed a taste for my mum's chocolate cake (heh: I was instrumental in making it the mother that should supply the cake for birthdays in our family  ) and usually ask for that when/if she actually asks what kind I'd like. Especially as it is a rather solid thing that tastes very chocolatey and where you only need a tiny bite to go with your coffee -it's more like a piece of confectionery really.

    Congrats to your man, btw.

My first child was born on my birthday (greatest present I ever got). So for the past 24 years we've always had what she wanted. I can't even remember what I wanted before that, it's been too long.

As I'm now the mum in the household () I make the cakes! As far as little miss trampledamage is concerened, baking the cake is a waste of good cake mixture and decorating it is a waste of chocolate and smarties - but we aim for a happy medium between making cake and eating the ingredients!

young master trampledamage will be getting his first cake this year (I'm not one for bothering with cake on a first birthday) - and he doesn't like chocolate, so I'll be trying for a strawberry cake instead.

Same thing happened to John Lennon with his second son. But he only got to spend 5 years with Sean. :(

You say that like it's a bad thing. It'd be like some cartoon Tom Petty video. :)

 Is it wrong that I think slaughtering cake cartoon characters is a rather twisted but fun thing to do at a child's birthday? It is a miracle more kids aren't traumatized having to watch a beloved "friend" get hacked to bits right before their eyes.

But I would love to have that cake to auntie. If not Blu, Coco or Cheese will be fine too.

As for my cake... I wouldn't want a cake. I would prefer one of my mom's fantastic blueberry cobblers. Her cobblers always come out buttery and crunchy while not being doughy. Mmmmm... Damn! I shouldn't have typed that. Now I want one.

It just dawned on me that this year, I'll be having my 5th anniversary AND I'll be turning ( :scream: ) forty.

There better be cake involved, damn it.

My wife left me on our 5th anniversary! (True story...we'd decided to part a month or more before and it just worked out it was a convenient date for her parents to come help her move back to her hometown.)
