Worst TV show of all time

My vote goes to Alice, a crushingly unfunny sitcom that lasted nine fucking seasons.

And one of those mostly one room/one set ones, like CHEERS (which I never liked). I actually watched an episode a few months ago to remind myself how awful it was.

One I couldn't stand was ALL IN THE FAMILY. Even pre-cable, I couldn't leave the t.v. on that. Sally Struthers...*shudder*...the 70's decor...blech.

How could you not like "All IN The Family"?

Norman Lear was a head of his time and changed the face of TV forever.
He and Gene Roddenberry did the same things by bringing "taboo" topics such as bigotry to life thru entertainment as using it as a mirror of the social goings on in America during a time of change.

yeah, I'm with you on this one Exodus..ALL IN THE FAMILY is a classic. Would be interesting to see what they thought the BEST TV shows were...has me shaking in my boots just wondering about it...

I vaguely remember, sometime in the mid-80's, ABC took like four or five of its worst-performing sitcoms and actually merged them into one show. I think a lot of people tuned into that one-and-only episode just to see the train wreck. I wish I remembered more about it.

It's hard to say because generally if I hate a TV show, I won't watch it. But any time either The Simpsons or The Drew Carey Show comes on, I scramble to change the channel like my zapper is on fire. I can't stand either show.

Really? The Fireflyness of the back box tempts me whenever I'm at Best Buy. What sucked about it and what was it about?

Imagine Firefly but without decent acting or the brilliant writing of Joss Whedon. Frankly, it's not that bad for the genre of syndicated sci-fi but that's not saying much.

The folks responsible for completely ruining the final season of Earth: Final Conflict (often described as "Renee the Atavus Slayer") should be flogged.

Andromeda gave me headaches. There were a few good characters--Tyr Anasazi, Seamus Harper--but the production values were so godawful and Kevin Sorbo deliberately asked the writers to dumb down the writing.

I had an urge to go after more elusive prey than that or "A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila."

Hey. Anything that puts more lipstick lesbians on TV is OK by me.

There was a dreadful sitcom which was supposed to be a vehicle for Billy Connolly to get into the US tv market. It was called Billy I think, and I saw about 5 minutes of one episode. It has to be in the running.

I remember Billy. I thought I was the only one who remembered Billy. For what it's worth, I enjoyed it as part of ABC's TGIF line-up in the 1990s. Of course, I was a kid at the time but I liked it then.

I liked She Spies because it was a pisstake. Not a very good one, admittedly, but their heart and humour were in the right place.

As bad as some stuff these days is, it's still not like the 50s, 60s or 70s when you had to watch whatever was on and it was shit. These are the golden years in comparison. Gree Acres? Doby Gillis? Hee Haw? Who in the hell would ever want that crap on DVD?

Rafterman is right on the mark... Growing up in the 70s, you watched what was on, and channel surfing meant getting up off the couch to turn the dial (and getting yelled at for "turning it too fast") and fiddle with the antenna.

You had CBS, ABC and NBC and some half assed UHF stations that were programmed by somebody's grandmother and the signal was like something from Radio Free Venus. You could catch the Late Movie, which was done at 2am, after which there was NOTHING until the 5:45am farm report. 24 hour news? PAY for TV?!?! Madness!!

But there were some serious wins...MASH, The Carol Burnet Show, All in the Family, and this weird Japanese cartoon that I watched at 7am on my crappy BW tv...STARBLAZERS!

Now you kids get off my lawn!

Yeah, yeah, whatever...to me, growing up in the early 80's, it was irritating 70's crap starring actors I didn't like.

Never liked Barney Miller, either.

Or Sports Night.

Not saying they were the worst shows ever, but I'd takethe brainlessness of Green Acres or Gilligans Island over them. Maybe I think sitcoms are supposed to be stupid.

^"Green Acres" was actually decent social satire, and not brainless. "Gilligan's Island", on the other hand, had no redeeming value whatsoever. Well, other than Ginger and Mary Ann, anyway.

Sorry, my friend, you are at least somewhat wrong. Gilligan was deliberately written with the world we know or knew in microcosm, with all classes and types somewhat represented. Even the name of the boat was a backhanded homage to an FCC Chairman named Minow, who coined the term 'vast wasteland', when it came to TV. If you'll notice on the show, its often the conflicts generated by conflicting goals driven by the different backgrounds of the characters that wreck things as much as Gilligan's stupidity. The other six knew that, if they killed Gilligan (or just kept him tied up or otherwise incapicitated), they'd soon turn on each other.

But, if you want to watch what is sometimes referred to as a 'Dark Gilligan's Island', watch the Toho non-G classic 'Matango', aka 'Attack Of The Mushroom People'.
