"Destiny" Question - What was the original pitch? (Possible Spoilers)

This question is for David Mack:

"Destiny" is one of the most significant events ever in the Star Trek literary universe. I'm curious how it came about. Did the original pitch come from the editors or the writer?

What was that original pitch, and how did it evolve as the trilogy developed?

I thoroughly enjoyed all three books, and would love to know some of the nuts & bolts of how it came about.

The short answer is, editors Margaret Clark and Marco Palmieri invited me to lunch, showed me the crashed-Columbia image from the Ships of the Line book, and said, "We'd like you to base an epic crossover trilogy on this, please."

Having read the entire series and absolutely enjoyed it,one question remains....what are you going to do next? Any chance of perhaps re-introducing a Constitution class starship to the mix? I do have a couple of ideas how that can come about.....

Hmmmm... How about a CD-ROM version of older issues?

I would especially be up for a CD-Rom or DVD-Rom of all the back issues of Star Trek Magazine beginning from number one to the relaunch when they entered the U.S. Market. I don't have a single issue of those and I would love to read them!

What exactly is this Intro to the Trilogy?

IIRC, the Star Trek Magazine printed the first one or two chapters of Gods of Night before the novel was published.

That's what I was referring to - I was lucky enough to see advance material on Destiny, and that's why we pushed it hard in the magazine.
