Annual List of Words to Be Banished

Hullo. New member here. The word I hate the most last year is "Web 2.0". Suddenly, every so-called cyber-visionaries who come up with their usual half-baked ideas are labelling it Web 2.0. I was not aware that there are various versions of the Internet. If the future of the Web is in version 2.0, what will happen to my Web ver. 1.56 Semi-Professional-Gold Edition (TM)? Will my older version of the Internets be compatible with version 2.0? Help me, cyber-visionaries, you're my only hope.

^ I had the same thoughts when I kept hearing "Web 2.0." It's just silly.

The <3 symbol surprises me a bit because if they were going to choose any year to put it on the list, it should have been about 2003. It was all the rage when I was in high school. I have yearbook entries with fricken' sideways heart symbols in them. I don't really see it much anymore though.

That's how you get VC funding from people who don't really know what to invest in right now.

"Your Mom" - ask a question, you have a 50% chance of getting this as an answer. I was resetting the master computer password a few weeks ago and asked a co-worker for a suggestion and got this. I used it.

I much prefer the Glasgow variant 'Yer maw'. It was the first Glaswegian slang I learned and one day I will say it convincingly.

'Would of' is high on my hate list. It's one of those small things that has me close to snapping every time I read it.

I <3 the <3 symbol. And use it all the time. So do a lot of the people I talk to. You clearly just don't talk to the right people :p

I think the only stuff I really don't want to hear anymore would be "Maverick" "Real America" "Wall Street/Main Street"

That's about it.

There are plenty words I wouldn't mind going the rest of my life without ever hearing again, but none that really "grate" on me.

Some things I've been hearing at work have greatly irritated me all last year:

"What the French?" - as a substitute for the other F-word. I work at a place where 'blue' language is the norm, so I'm at a loss as to why someone introduced this one.
It's funnier if you add the word "toast" to the end.

"Straight up"
The only time this phrase should be used is when people are ordering alcohol.

^ Banished in the name of diversity and tolerance?
Since they are the enemies of those things, you are being more ironic than you know. However, I'd be happy to see all ideologues go, replaced by sane, rational people. What a world that would. My guesstimate is that we'd have a ginormous amount of fantastical change. And monkeys. I'd <3 that. :bolian:
