sci-fi shows with continuous ongoing arcs?

are there any scifi/fantasy shows with continuous ongoing arcs like 24? I recently picked up Surface and looking for other shows like it.

Babylon 5.

The original master which all other sci fi shows attempt to emulate.

Although if you're talking original then Dr Who, Blake's 7, Quatermass and about any other British sci fi series since 1953 onwards!

It's not sci-fi, but season 4 of Angel is basically one continuous arc taking place over a period of 3-4 weeks.

The continuous arc is more intensely defined in some shows, than in others. Babylon 5 is one example cited, where the arc is the backbone of the show's complete story. Farscape had one as well, though perhaps a little less displayed. Firefly certainly had elements that carried over, but since it only lived for a handful of episodes it's hard to evaluate jsut how intensely displayed any arc would have been.

There are almost no scifi shows that have continuous arcs the way 24 does. Most of the shows listed above, great shows, like farscape, firefly, b5, LOST, BSG, etc, all have stand-alones in it, with the arc weaving in and out.

24 is a full serialized show, there are no standalones. Each episode is the same story, picking up right after the last.

The only show that comes to mind is Heroes.

The condensed Season 4 of Babylon 5 had practically no standalone episodes... but this was because they had assumed that it would be the last season of the series.

Earth 2 was another good arc-driven show, though it only lasted one season.

Charlie Jade was continuous-sadly, it only lasted one season. nuBSG is pretty close and B5 is the granddaddy of the "arc" scifi series.

If I recall, Space: Above and Beyond would count. They're smaller arcs (within the grand one), but they're there and the show is worth seeing if you haven't yet.

Day Break probably qualifies.

Also, both Buffy & Angel have strong continuity carrying through most episodes, although there's often an A-story which is standalone as well.

Yeah i was looking for something more like 24, a fully serialized show. Surface kinda fits that criteria. Maybe I'll try out Lost?

Only season 4 of babylon 5 was "fully" serialized. Angel had lot of serialized arcs but many stand-alones. Firefly had lot of stand-alones.
Haven't seen BSG, what's the ratio of stand-alones to arc episodes?

Basically wouldn't it be nice to have a fully serialized sci-fi show? Something that seems like one long movie that last for 10+ hours.

Lost is probably a good choice in this department, although the pace can leave something to be desired at times.
