Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Books

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

Do we even know how long the Romulan Wars lasted? I would expect a flurry of activity at the beginning of the conflict, but perhaps it shifts gears into a lower-intensity kind of war after those opening salvoes. Which might actually accord with what was said in TOS about no Romulans being seen or captured: the more battles you're fighting, the greater the odds that the Romulan ships will be boarded or bodies recovered, etc. Just as not every DS9 episode during the Dominion War was about the war proper, I can see future ENT books having a mixture of books dealing directly with the conflict and others where it is something simmering in the background.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Actually, we don't know when the Romulan War was fought. Assumptions have been made that it was from 2156-2160, but there's been no date for the war ever established onscreen.

It was on the readout screens (i.e. the Defiant's computer logs) from IAMD II. True, it wasn't *clear*, but it was still onscreen. :p

Does that make the giant hamster on a wheel also something that's been established onscreen?

The Destiny novel Mere Mortals established that it lasted 2156-2160.

Glad to see all of the eras getting covered next year. Can't wait for most of those books to come out. I was surprised about the first concept image of the Aventine but I suspected it would look like something close to that design. Looks to be another good year for Trek books through.

No, despite his use of use of colorful metaphors, I'd say that Bill in fact remains the winner in this exchange.

Yeah, I don't know about that...

There are a few author sycophants here at times.

Noticing that someone is being absurd and supporting a poster who points that out who also happens to be an author doesn't make you an author sycophant.

Or, tell me, am I an author sycophant, too? Because I should certainly think my rather epic debates with RedJack should prove otherwise. ;)

Being right is one thing. Going into full-fledged 'angry' mode is quite another.

I have been having computer problems and was unable to edit my previous post.sorry i wasn't able to post the T'Pol quote about her being concerned if Vulcan got involved in the Earth /Romulan wars.I'm definitely interested to see how Micheal will move the story forward from where the previous book ended.

You know, if I had a premium membership, I would totally change my custom title to "Author Sycophant," just because.

Do you need your shoes shined today, Mr. DeCandido?

Hey, y'know... the guy's chosen screenname is "Nardpuncher." He uses a picture of Russell Crowe as his avatar. Why would I take anything he says about withholding expressions of anger to heart?

Sage words from the greatest writer named William since the fella from Stratford.

Do you need your hat blocked today, God-King Leisner?

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

The cancellation of the Crucible hardcover marks a disappointment for me, of course, but it had little to do with anything other than the harsh economic climate pervading the country in general and the publishing industry in particular. Contrary to one post, concrete information was available for the omnibus, including its table of contents, which I offer again here.

  • "Talismans and Spells" (new preface)
  • "The Potentials of Emptiness" (new short story)
  • Provenance of Shadows
  • "The Delicate Currents of the Past" (new short story)
  • The Fire and the Rose
  • "The Weight of Too Few Years" (new short story)
  • The Star to Every Wandering
  • "Into the Void" (new short story)
  • "Confluence, Enduring" (new short story)

I completed writing the additional material prior to the cancellation of the project.
Not to put too fine a point on it, I am crushed that this has been cancelled. The Crucible trilogy is some of the best Trek prose fiction yet done, in my opinion, and I was very much looking forward to having the whole thing in a nice hardcover format, to say nothing of the new and added material. While I am hopeful that the new material will see the light of day somewhere, and will certainly buy it when/if that occurs, I am very saddened that the hardcover isn't going to happen, especially since some of the books that are coming out are not things I'm all that interested in.
