Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Books

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

Not the Trek books, some of the other titles in the catalogue. (Yes, I read through pretty much the whole thing... couldn't resist; it's like browsing a virtual bookshelf). The book about the coming fusion of the U.S., Mexico and Canada, for one.
S&S has a right-wing publishing imprint to compete with Regnery. The book you're talking about is by Jerome Corsi, who's batshit insane, and even the far right thinks he's a kook.

He certainly has an interesting view of the European Union and its so-called "tyranny," considering that the democratically-elected governments of Europe all have the option of joining or withdrawing from the EU as they see fit.

The Never-Ending Sacrifice may just displace A Burning House as my favorite cover-with-a-planets-surface-on-it.

It would be great to see Deep Space 9 or the Defiant on the cover of The Soul Key, as I don't think any of the relaunch novels have had non-character covers. That's not a bad thing mind you.

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

Hey, I notice there's going to be a trade-paperback reprint of Jim Butcher's Spider-Man: The Darkest Hours. I wonder if there will be reprints for the Spidey novels Keith and I (and one or two others) did for Pocket as well...?

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

Oh, and I really hope that the covers for TNES and Losing the Peace are the real covers, because even as tiny black and white pictures they are awsome.
Agreed on TNES but Losing the Peace, awesome looking as it is from far away, is a pretty obvious bit of place holder up close (the fact that Riker, Troi and Data are on the cover is a big clue).

Still, added a few more books to my Amazon shopping list now.

I like that cover a lot. I hope it's not a placeholder but with Data there it's hard to see as the real cover. I also like the cover for Never Ending Sacrifice too.

Unlikely -- they're doing that because Jim Butcher is a world-famous New York Times best-selling author. In fact, it rather boggled my mind that they didn't push that when the book was first released.

But that reprint has little to do with Spider-Man and everything to do with Jim Butcher.

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

Was everyone else able to see that .pdf? I came to me in two parts (one of which was .pdf.part), and my PDF reader started yelling "corrupted" the first time I tried... *sigh*

Still... YAY for the existence of a cover for the Soul Key!!!! :D

EDIT: Think I got it-- now even more excited (beware...) :p

No novelization of the J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009) movie? :wtf: Or is no one in a position to either confirm or deny the existence of a novelization for said movie?

Yeah, I figured that would probably be the case. Well, all you and I have to do, then, is become New York Times bestselling authors ourselves! Race ya...

I know there's not going to be a comics adaptation of the film, but I haven't heard anything one way or the other on a novelization.

However, notice that the novelization of the new Underworld film is listed in this catalog (which covers summer 2009 and beyond), when the film itself is coming out next month or so. It's possible that projects like novelizations are solicited differently.

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

^ In fact, the Underworld novelization in question is already in stores. So yeah, novelizations tend to get solicited a bit late in the game.............

I hadn't realized it was out, yet, but mostly as I hadn't been looking for it. Like I know Jeff Lang's Fantastic Four novel is out, but I can't find that one anywhere. I shall have to expand my search.

Speaking of novelizations, I've been idly wondering of late if there's to be a novelization of Watchmen. There was that novelization of V For Vendetta three years ago written by Steve Moore, the creator of Abslom Daak. Y'know, I should just look on Amazon... :)

I wouldn't get to excited, it says on the picture that it's not the final art.

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

^ Too late... ;)
I have to wait til Aug. 09 for this... its like an eternity!! Especially if its a real eternity waiting for ASD in Feb!!
No no no, I need everything for this book I can get! I wanna know what happens!!

Its not so much the cover thats getting me excited so much as *a* cover...
Still, nice of them to say its not the final art, it looks neat, though I'm not sure what that thing on the left is. Ideas?

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

What was the synopsis for the Tos Novel Troublesome Minds? I saw a cover awhile back with Spock. I'd appreciate any information about this book please thank you.

Re: Tentative Covers & Descriptions for Upcoming Summer 2009 Trek Book

Keeping in mind the usual provisos and caveats, here's what the catalogue says:

A new "classic" story starring Kirk, Spock, and the crew of the Enterprise, coinciding with the premiere of the new Star Trek movie from director J.J. Abrams.
While exploring the unmapped frontier, the Starship Enterprise responds to a distress call from an unknown ship. Captain James T. Kirk turns first contact into a threat of interstellar war—by saving the life of a man his own people abandoned. Berlis, colony leader of a telepathic race calling themselves the Isitri, claims not to know why those from his homeworld want him dead. Now Kirk must either find a way to wrench billions from the grip of one man, or be responsible for the destruction of two planets.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman
