AMANDA:"Son...why is that man in the gold shirt and black bell bottoms fighting the one in the rubber lizard costume?"

One verse into "Diamonds and Rust" Joan Baez exits the stage and fires the manager who booked her as the opening act for Ozzfest

There are a lot more old farts around than some people think.

Romulan Guy: Green Manalishi? No. Why?
Kirk: Just wondering, is all.

I'd be surprised if anyone here still knows or cares who Joan Baez is!
M'Sharak is right. More people probably know Judas Priest's cover of Diamonds and Rust than Joan's original.

BTW, Joan's new album is quite good, with some Steve Earle originals. He produced the record. It's nice to see her even have a contract to record. Fifteen years ago, that's when I knew the record industry had officially gone into the toilet, when Joan Baez couldn't get a recording contract.

I used to enjoy playing the "cover game" at work with a guy who was unaware of the original versions. No, "Sweet Dreams" is not a Marilyn Manson original. Yes "Land of Confusion" was recorded first by Genesis, not Disturbed.

There are a couple of generations of metalheads who know covers of covers of Priest's "Diamonds", but around here, you at least get the folks who acknowledge that there were SF movies before Star Wars and know Baez from the Silent Running soundtrack, if nowhere else. She lived around here growing up, actually -- went to high school in the next town over. It also occurs to me that the professor I had for music composition at SFSU had been a guitarist who backed her up at Woodstock back when.

My sister law hung out with Joan back in the day. And I had friends who used to wait on her at the Tower Records in Mt. View. I wonder how many degrees from Kevin Bacon that makes me?

I heard Joan sing in churches a couple of times when I went to Stanford in the early '70s. She also played at the best rock concert I've ever attended, one of the Rolling Thunder Revue shows with Bob Dylan.

This all gives me three degrees of separation from Nerys Myk. Now that's scary!

Man, you spend five hours with the family on Christmas Eve and suddenly an old people* convention breaks out.

* = Mind you I listen to the local classic rock station; from the Beatles to Linkin Park and all points in between.

Little known fact: the actual names of the Three Wise Men were: Nerys Myk, M'Sharak and Outpost4 (because they're oooooold!!!!!!!)

PINE: I'm thinking JJ is taking this "more like Star Wars" thing a bit too far.
BANA: Thats for the lawyers to decide.

Nero: Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You slept with my girlfriend. Prepare to die.
Kirk: Stop saying that!
