Teal'c and O'Neill better linguists than Daniel?

Silversmok3

In Window of Opprotunity O'Neill and Teal'c learn latin/Ancient from Daniel during several time loops to defeat a machine.

After several loops O'Neill and Teal'c are correcting Daniel on his own script!

Now,since they were the only two who remembered the events of the loops,in turn all that remembered knowledge will make them default experts in Ancient and translations thereof.

So why didn't the producers take that into account?

I'm not asking Daniel to be a fifth wheel, but when he does start rambling about Ancient stuff it wouldn't be out of character for O'Neill and/or Teal'c to at least understand what Daniels saying.

^They knew enough to help Daniel translate the instructions for the machine. That's not the same as being fluent in all the languages Daniel is.

Daniel demonstrated a working knowledge of many languages in his time on the show. He clearly spoke fluent Goa'uld, which is more than Jack was capable of.

And O'Neill, at least, probably go busy forgetting all that ancient text he memorized as soon as the first spoonfull of oatmeal hit his lips.

Teal'c seems to have a pretty good memory, but they probably didn't become completely fluent in the language. He could probably translate another time-loop machine like a champ, though, even if he'd have trouble talking about the weather.

Its not that Daniel's usefulness is in question;its just that when they're looking for the lost city and Daniel(Jonas too)start talking about Ancient texts and ideas O'Neill and Teal'c act like they've never heard of it despite being taught the basics over, and over, and over, and over again.

Yeah,O'Neill will probably forget some details, but if he was correcting Daniel on one translation string its doubtful hed forget all of it.

Put another way,he may not speak Ancient conciously, but he'd at least know what bathroom means in Ancient.

There's a difference between being able to translate or understand stuff and memorizing translations that Daniel made. It would be very easy, if not easier, for them to remember, "The last time, you translated this section to say, '....'" rather than remember "(Ancient word) actually means 'food'." I doubt they got very much out of that experience as far as Ancient translating goes. And, even if they did remember how the translations went, one little passage is a lot different than trying a whole language.

Two things we have to remember here.

First, it has been pointed out by Carter and others that Jack acts dumb, but we all know he isn't. That telescope on the roof isn't for spying on the neighbours.

Second, Teal'c isn't exactly talkative. He's more likely to just let Daniel get on with it.

Well that telescope isn't just for spying on the neighbors. And I wouldn't trust his cooking either for that matter.
