The BBC news website reports that David Tennant should be fit enough following his surgery to start filming the first of the specials on January 19th. Hurrah!

David Tennant is expected to be fit enough to start filming scenes for a Doctor Who special next month, just weeks after surgery on his back.
The show's executive producer, Russell T Davies, said he was "hopeful" Tennant would start filming on 19 January.
"We'll have to be very careful," he said. "I don't think we'll be swinging him on a wire on his first day back."

Beat you by seconds, apparently. ;)

Good news, although the BBC does appear to have taken RTD's "hopeful" as a more definite statement than I would have.

I like the 'it's ok... we're insured!' type comment in there. It's fine if Tennant ends up in crippling pain... there's a payout in it ;)

Which comment would that be? All the article says is that Davies mentioned the fact that the production is insured, not that he was pleased by the fact or danced a merry jig at Tennant's pain.

Re-reading I can see the intention of the remark.

In my line of work such a line would usually be used to say 'If someone gets hurt... it's not my problem." My eyes read it in a different context.
