Was Ezri Dax a poor choice?

I liked Jadzia better than Ezri, because of how irreverent she was. I know that Ezri was not trained for the joining, and hence, that's why her character was a bit ditzy in the beginning. She wasn't picked specifically to be joined with the Dax symbiont, so it was all very new and confusing for her.

Eventually, I did like Ezri, and you know, you do have to move on when a character is killed off. With the whole symbiont angle, though, part of the character never has to be gone forever -- stick the symbiont in a new body, and voila! New character who conveniently has the old one's memories.

How much more of a challenge would it have been for Worf if Dax came back as a man? I'm sure there wouldn't have been Brokeback Trek, of course!

Red Ranger

INDEED!!

There was a debate to have the next Dax as a man. It would not worked out with Worf dealing with the death of Jadzia and dealing with a man.

If DS9 were an HBO show, maybe he would do a Man-Dax... I mean, Worf's from a warrior culture! :)

And it's okay to discuss Jadzia and Kira as bisexuals, but not Worf? I claim sexism, gosh dernit. Hey, were ARE in a thread where the main character has been both sexes and both genders.

If they would what? Make both Ezri's jump in the sack?

The mirror Ezri was an interesting character always with the potential to go either way in regards to choices (meaning evil vs good). *IF* she began a relationship with our Ezri and they ended up being sexually intimate there would be nothing wrong with that from an in-universe perspective provided it was mutual and consenting. There would be something wrong with it from a viewers perspective as far as it catering to the T&A crowd though. From in-universe they are totally different people, not siblings, not twins so it's not an ethically questionable pairing.

The reason Kira was repulsed by the Mirror Kira was not because she was having sex with women. It was because she used sex to get her own way, to coerce and as a weapon. The Mirror Kira is a voracious power mad character.

Ahhh something wrong from the viewers perspective. Still, the writters could not go there with the show. Still, the fans could go there if they wanted and still have some connection with DS9.

You would agree if a fan wanted, he could write a story with Ezri and the mirror Ezri then say Sisko and Worf with a sexural plot. The writters did write it in a way it could happen with both Ezri's then with say Sisko and Worf. .

A fan can write anything they want. I'm quite sure there are tons of Ezri/Ezri stories out there, as well as any male/male pairing.

Well!!

I have been thinking of a story with Ezri/Ezri done with a message board to be done as a role play with a woman with that as a topic since 2000. The reason with a woman, as I find that role play is best if you write with your character being your gender. I could not write a good story of a man and also be a woman in real life.

Personally, I think the introduction of Ezri into Season 7 was a mistake. If they had introduced her in Season 6, with more time to develop her, she would have been much better. Ezri was way overfeatured in the first half of Season 7. It didn't help that we learned FAR more about Ezri in the first 11 episodes of S7 than we did about Jadzia in the first 6 seasons. Yes, we learned a lot about Dax, especially Curzon Dax. But the most we learned about Jadzia's past outside of being involved with Curzon is that her father was named Kela.

Hoooooold on a second here. It's okay to discuss lesbian interaction, but not gay interaction?

At first, I didn't like her just because I thought bringing another "dax" back into DS9 was stupid.

In hindsight, I'm fine with decision and liked her ok as an actress. She's fairly hot.

Plus I really liked that episode "field of fire", where Ezri had to get in touch with dax's previous murderous host, to catch the killer. Not that it's the best episode or anything, but it was enjoyable for me.

Sure we can! If Odo was to have sex with Sisko would his shape shifter man tool can be so long it comes out of Sisko's mouth? Ok, do we really want to go there or do we want to talk about Ezri?

Firstly, it's quite well-established that Odo loves Kira, so he would not be doing it with Sisko. Secondly, while Ezri (or more specifically Nicole DeBoer) is a lovely woman, I would rather talk about doing it with Sisko.

Please don't assume things.

But, there is nothing within the canon of DS9 to support a gay relationship with the men of DS9 but there is canon of DS9 to support a lesbian relationship with the women.

When it's all been said and done, I agree with Marie1, Jadzia was great!!this thread just proves that we don't have to always agree on how great Trek is, it is what it is. I have mixed feelings about Ezri, she got off to a bad start but she hit her stride in the episode "Field of Fire" she confronted Joran, that is something that even made Jadzia a bit uncomfortable. All in all, I wish that Jadzia had stayed on for the last season. Nicole did her best and I think for the most part she suceeded, it's just that there was only one Jadzia and for 6 seasons she was DAX

Resistance is Futile

Ezri was the cutest thing going on DS9. I'd watch the show sometimes just to see DeBoer, so I'd have liked it less than I do if she hadn't been featured.

There has been talk since the ending of Deep Space 9 that Ezri Dax was a poor choice as a replacement. Would love to understand your personal feelings with Ezri Dax.

YES, you know the expression, Don't change horses in midstream :D

YES I know the expression.

Still, it was Terry (Jadzia) that did not want to come back with season 7. Nobody wanted to force her to leave the show. In fact, they wanted her to stay for the last season. Strange is it not she wanted to leave so she would be on BECKER and it was on that show she was FIRED.

If people do not like Nicole because Terry quit, you are going after the wrong woman. Nicole was the best that the staff of DS9 could do with the last season. And yes I would agree that the last season spent more time on her because they had to develop her in such a short period of time.

If you loved Jadzia, and you are upset with the last season because of not having Jadzia and havine Ezri with also having more time on the show just to develop her character I say get over it.

In fairness, I can say the same with Jeri (7 of 9) when Kes was forced off Voyager. They spent more time dealing with 7 of 9 to build her character then Ezri had to develop her character with the same amount of episodes.

I don't NOT like her. I just don't have any feelings one way or another about the character. she was just as insipid as Jadzia. they should not have replaced Dax. better to let a bad character to die a horrible death than be replaced by a worse character that continues to live a boring life.
