Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverine)

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

Star Wars The Phantom Menace
Star Wars Attack of the Clones

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

I think "The Phantom Menace" is a cool title. "Attack of the Clones" is just bad, though.

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

Well the way the prequel titles are on the cover (and I guess they're the official title since that's how they appear on the little credits blub) -- Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace -- that's just stupid.

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

It seems that anything with a colon in it sucks.
Especially when a word that starts with "Re-" follows it, like Regeneration , or Resurrection, or rebirth or whatever.

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

It's even worse then they're in multiple segments, like Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

I love that they try to avoid the double colon, making it sound like it's about someone who raids Lara Croft's tomb.

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

what's wrong with Attack of the Clones? it's got clones in and they attack.

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

Attack of the Clones always sounded like an unfortunate medical affliction to me. The kind that involves a special cream and drinking lots of water. As in "Oh dear, I've had a slight attack of the clones!"

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins

That only sucks because further adventures never panned out.

I'd offer: The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension and The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain (which, if I recall correctly, stole the "longest movie title" crown from The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-up Zombies because "mixed-up" was considred one word for counting purposes) for their longwindedness, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture simply for the "well, duh!" factor.

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

I was always really annoyed by "X2: X-Men United". Just call it X-Men 2!!!

I also disliked "Quantum of Solace".

And for the future, "X-Men Origins Wolverine" and "The First Avenger Captain America" both sound absolutely terrible.

I hear they beat the Fighting Temptations on goal difference last weekend in Bruges, and will go on to play Sin City in the final. :bolian:

"The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain"
not a mainstream movie, but it was released at the movie theater (not art house)where i worked.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture simply for the "well, duh!" factor.

I've always liked that...same with Superman: The Movie. Or The Muppet Movie. It's got a kind of kitsch innocence about it, like there's something special about the movies. I wish more crossover titles would use that.

I don't see what's wrong with that name, it tells you exactly what it's about. :P I've always like that film, no real reason, just liked it. Have to dig out a DVD of it, not sure if I've got one or not...

That's not the real title. It's just called X2, as seen in the original movie posters, the credits listing on the poster and, well, the opening title sequence and end credits.

Someone slapped X-Men United on the DVD release, probably because they were afraid that despite doing a killing at the box office, no one would know what X2 meant.

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

Even "X2" by itself is horrible. Why don't they just call it X-Men 2?

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

possibly for the same reason as Termintor 2: Judgement Day became T2, Independence Day became iD4, Men in Black became MIB, Men In Black II became MIIB, X-Men III: The Last Stand is also X-3 and Aliens Versus Predator: Requiem became AVPR.

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

But T2, AVP, MIB, etc. are just acronyms and shorthand. X2 is the full title.

Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking your Juice in the Hood
[...]
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze

I have to disagree with these. Don't Be a Menace... is a great title precisely because it's so long and references the titles of so many of the movies it's spoofing.

And what's wrong with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze?!? That's a great title. Not only is it a sequel to one of the better comic book movies of the last couple decades but the subtitle is perfectly descriptive. They are trying to discover the secret of the ooze that first created the Turtles.

Quantum of Solace
is a terrible title but for the fact that it's spawned so many funny parody songs on Youtube.

Tomorrow Never Dies was a good title but would have been better if they'd gone with their original plan and called it Tomorrow Never Lies.

I hate titles that require too much punctuation like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life or The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe. (I just streamline the Star Wars titles by leaving out the episode number.)

just a long title.... i always got a chuckle out of it when i worked in a movie theater...

i'd love for them to have made a series of "Englishman" movies...
"The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill And Stayed Because He Enjoyed The View"
"The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill And Then Up Another Hill But Had To Pause To Catch His Breath."
"The Englishman Who Thought About Going Up A Hill But Decided He Should Simply Drive Around It."

Re: Worst mainstream movie titles (in honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverin

I know it wasn't the actual title, but ID4 was stupid, as in we're supposed to accept the number 4 after the initials because, well, um, The 4th of July is Independence Day.
