Christmas Cookies!

Kira's Mom

It's that time of year- to bake and eat Christmas cookies, the kind you don't make any other time of the year.

I made these last night:

Tricolor (or Rainbow) cookies and cherry shortbread. Recipes here at my blog:

The tricolor cookies are hard to find in stores. You're better off making them yourself. They're really not as complicated as they look...

My mom's favorite:

Those look yummy! I'll have to try them sometime in the next month.

I don't usually do Christmas cookies since my family doesn't celebrate Christmas and my mom has never baked anything, ever. But my mother-in-law invited me and my sis-in-law to make Christmas cookies with her next week. I'm super excited! Best mother-in-law ever.

Cookies, or biscuits, aren't a big tradition over here in the UK. It's more Christmas cake, mince pies and yule logs. Mince pies are my absolute favoutire. I haven't made my own since I was a kid, though.

I usually do a ridiculous ammount of baking and candymaking every year.. but I am moving with my boyfriend into a new appartment in a few days so all time have been spent on packing.
All I have managed to do is some gingerspice cake (like buntcake with gingerbreadtaste). I will be making chocolate chip cookies (white chocolate+cashew) before christmaseve though since my nephews expect and crave it.. Oh.. and toffees.

I haven't made any cookies this year. I did make this:

And my friens made this:

And these, since they got laid off from the Baltimore Opera the same day as the Xmas party...

Those poor people. Couldn't they have at least waited until after the party to tell them?

Really, the timing of these layoffs is absurd.

^Well, no, the Opera company had to declare Chapter 11. They knew it was happening for a few days, hence the cookies. ;)

They canceled the two remaining shows this season, released the singers for next year and the whole thing is shutting down, except the development department, to try to raise the money to put up a season next year. The media (local and national) broke the story that morning...

What in it? What's it taste like?

For Halloween a few years back I made Ricecrispes. I died them orange, scouped them out with an ice cream scoup, got a tube of that black cake decorator and put eyes, nose, and mouths on them, then got green frosting and made stems.

I was thinking about doing the same thing this time, but die green and a thin layer of crispy forsting on the top with red crystal spinkles.

I have other experimental ideas, but still thinking. Something like a snow man, and candy canes.

I'm baking my holiday cookies tomorrow, with my two best friends. We get together every year to do our holiday baking. If everything turns out okay, I will post a picture.

Back when I was a kid, my mom used to buy these shortbread cookies with candy sprinkles on em. They were made by Murray, I think, and after searching for them for years, I finally found them last Christmas. Then Murray stopped making them. Mom used to put them out for "Santa" with a glass of milk and then eat them herself. Good times. -Dan

Lots of yummy stuff in this Thread. :D My Christmas tradition is plain old-fashioned homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies. That's the way it must be. And someday I must rebuild the Cookie Castle I had when I was a kid....

That's very sad. I feel sorry for those people, but I admire their attitude and humor.
