As noted above, that's pretty much the way they were under Central Command, before the Dominion War.

In terms of physical destruction, Germany didn't see much during WW1. The major fighting was in France, Belgium, and (present-day) Poland.

We (The UK) also helped out considerably with German post war recontruction which meant that our own post war reconstruction was hampered!

But seriously...when it comes to Cardassian women, we also know of a few others who are candidates if the narrator is supposed to be a woman. Malyn Ocett, for one, also that woman who got dumped by Damar in the Terok Nor series...

Or if you really want to go off the wall with this one--if there's not a lower age limit, I think it would be interesting to get the perspective of someone growing up during that time period and see how it shapes her. And then, in future years, she could really have some decisions to make about whose footsteps she wants to follow in...

MO would be a good choice since she's childless- just to avoid the distraction, no one can kidnap the kids and demand stuff. She's used to being unique/different, and has a lot of experience.

But "that woman who got dumped by Damar" would certainly be the most ironic... LOL!

Speaking of Ocett, I wonder what happened to Revok... I'm kindof guessing when someone catches him he'll be in trouble...

I'm trying to remember which of the 3 was Gilora Madred... one of them I didn't like, the other 2 I thought were okay...

Gilora Rejal was one of the three scientists.

Gilora Madred, however, was Gul Madred's kid. We saw her in TNG's "Chain of Command." One wonders if that incident where she witnessed Picard's interrogation had any effect on her.

As for Ocett...I didn't like her. I thought she was kind of a she-hound, personally.

No, Gilora Rejal was basically a good person. She did have that one bit where she thought O'Brien was hitting on her (because he was irritable, and that's how Cardassians generally 'court') but she wasn't an Obsidian Order agent. That was the third one, Dejar.

I know that's how it's spelled in the original script...but frankly, I expect that name to retcon if it's ever used again--Gilora/Jil Orra...it's almost definitely the same name.

Even if they are variants on the same name, why should a retcon be necessary? Nobody would propose "retconning" Kathryn Janeway's name to Catherine or Pavel Chekov's name to Chekhov. If we can have different spellings of the same name, why can't the Cardassians?

This is interesting b/c I was reading DM's annotations to Warpath, and thinking that it sounded close enough like neurozine in Civil Defense, to just claim that neurocine was a different word, since I doubt in the show we've seen it spelled. But maybe thats cheating.

When I think of how many transliterations there can be of a given name between writing systems, on our world alone...I can't see a reason to object. Simply note the existence of the different schools of thought on the issue and move on.

Especially because Cardassians obviously don't use English lettering, so translating a given name from their language to ours is obviously going to be rather variable in terms of spelling.
