Where are my glasses?

Even though my eyesight is pretty bad, I never wear my glasses unless I am going out, and then I never take them off until I'm back home. As soon as I get home they go into my drawer. Pretty boring, but effective.

My mom wore really thick glasses for 20+ years and she finally got laser eye surgery a few years ago. She doesn't need glasses at all now.

I never have to feel if I'm still wearing them. With my vision it is immediately obvious that my glasses aren't on my face. Either that or I have once more fallen asleep in a jell-o mold.

Most of the time I'm the same - but my night sight is really bad even if I'm wearing the glasses so I never expect to see very well until I switch the lights on. I can be nearly ready to go out and suddenly realise that my eyesight hasn't got better even with the lights!

Yeah, it takes me a whlie to wake up in the mornings...

Yep. It takes a little bit to get the ol' visual pilot light a burning.
Other than a few moments of disorientation though, I'm okay.

Oh my gosh, you do that too?

Oh good! I thought I was the only one!

This year was the first time I spent a good ten minutes searching for my reading glasses...only to discover they were on my HEAD.

I frequently push them up on my head, like sunglasses, because they are really only good for reading. But this was the first time I actually forgot they were there.

Well, someone's getting old. :p ;)

So; Holdfast, do I get to let my hair down and shake my head too?:)

Well, it's not mandatory or anything, but since you're offering...

I am with some of the posters above on the losing them regularly. I know they are on one of the shelves near my bed but which one and were? I have to feel around for them.

Also OP, dont feel bad I have done that numerous times.

I'm not to the point where I need reading glasses (yet!), but at 20/240 vision, I am legally blind without corrective lenses.

Which means I have to be incredibly careful about where I put my eyeglasses, even when I'm stepping into the shower!

About two weeks ago, I well and truly lost my glasses. I was sure I'd left them by my computer desk, but alas they weren't there. Now I'm legally blind without my glasses, and to top it off, my glasses are 'rimless', which makes them even harder to find!

Well, to make the story short, while searching for them, I stepped on them! Luckily, I had bare feet, so I only dented the arm a little and they were easily fixed.

Now I leave them right beside my bed on the night stand :)

See...this is the main reason why I got heavy rimmed glasses. They are durable enough to survive...well me. And they are easier to find when I am fumbling around looking for them.

What about after you've turned the light off? That's when I sometimes have to check.

I'm very nearsighted so if I misplace my glasses I have to feel for them

I keep my classes in a pocket of my backpack. Only place I need them is during lecture, to read at a distance.

Well, technically the DMV says I need them while driving. But I disagree. Aside from tiny street signs I'm just fine without them on the road.....

Couldn't imagine using contacts, that just seems uncomfortable.

I wear mine nearly all the time when I'm not sleeping, so if I take them off, that's where they live too. On the nightstand.

Um.

Mine. Not yours.

Sadly. ;)

I figured I'd quote all y'all, and join the club!;) Blind! Blind! Blind!

I asked my eye-doctor how bad I was. He said, "Without them? Oh, you're blind as a bat in daylight. If you were out for the day and broke/lost your glasses, you wouldn't be able to drive home. You might not be able to safely walk home."

Comforting.

Last thing I do at night is take off my glasses (well, turning over and smooching Hubby doesn't count, does it?).

First thing I do in the morning is put them on.

Fortunately, I can find my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night without them. But then my eyes aren't very open and my feet kinda drag on the floor.

The nice things?

I know immediately when I'm not wearing them.

When I'm swimming, things are in focus under water. Or they were the last time I was swimming, 20 years ago in Hawaii. Not sure about now.

I really like your doctor.

Do I gather from this Holdfast, that you have a penchant for spec wearers?

My friend had laser eye surgery, she said it didn't hurt but the burning smell was a bit alarming. Don't let it put you off now

me either. The entire concept scares the hell out of me. My parents were told that I would be legally blind by the age of 12. Its close but I am not. I am fine with my glasses.

Yeah, I just don't fancy getting lasered either. Not really based on evidence, just my reluctance to get my eyes messed around with!

^
^ etc. She likened it to the smell of a horse getting shod. I.e. When the red-hot shoe goes onto the hoof. It could've been the drugs of course :}
Do they tape your eyelids open, you'd have to blink otherwise??

I think it's safe to say that for a 16 year old, I have terrible eyesight. I wear them all the time, and when they're not on my head, they're on my night stand. I even wear them while swimming. I don't go under water, due to fear of drowning, but I still need them to see. I am required to wear them while driving...they felt the need to explain that to me. Like I would drive without them. I couldn't find the door handle without my specs, much less the ignition. Thankfully though, I know my house well enough that I can walk from point a to point b without them at night.

I don't plan to have Laser surgery...although some day it might be convenient if my prescription gets worse; my lenses are already 1/4 of an inch thick, and that's with the ultra-thin polycarbonate lenses. Contacts...are out of the question. Just the thought of touching my eye freaks me out.
