Aftermath of Destiny (SPOILERS)

The Grim Ghost

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
We should know more about the state of the Trekverse after the Destiny Trilogy once we get our hands on A Singular Destiny. I thought it might be fun to do a bit of speculating on this subject though.

I assume that the Delta Quadrant will fall into complete chaos now that the 'stabilizing' influence of the Borg is gone. Will there be a scramble to control the systems that the Borg once occupied? Seems likely.

The Klingon Empire is probably in it's worst position since the destruction of Praxis.

It seems like there will be large chunks of the Federation that will not be able to be adequately patrolled due to all of the starship destruction and the upcoming massive relief efforts that will be needed. This should leave huge openings for organizations like the Orion Syndicate to cause trouble.

The 'Big Bad Guy' slot now seems to be empty. The Borg have been the greatest threat to the Federation (possibly tied with the Dominion) for quite awhile now. I wonder if we will be seeing a new threat to take their place?

Wasn't it just a year or two ago that we were hearing about a return to stories of exploration? ;)

And that's what we got. We also got some more Borg stuff, and now that's taken care of and out of the way....

I'm not so sure. I mean, what's left there for anyone to covet? I doubt the Borg left much in the way of natural resources, and it's not like there's a surviving indigenous population that anyone would want to gain influence or control over. And given what we saw at the end of Destiny, I wouldn't bet on there being much intact Borg technology left for anyone to try to exploit or reverse-engineer. So basically Borg space is now a bunch of barren, dead, resource-stripped systems. It's a huge wasteland. What's there to scramble for?

I was more wondering what Species 8472 will make of the sudden lack of Borg...

... and then the Dominion came in and took over the Delta Quadrant and now own half the galaxy...

mmmmm

Hey, I've got no problem with them wasting resources on trying to retain control of dead space no one else wants.

Read Places of Exile yet?

Species 8472 only entered our space in response to an invasion of their own. With no more Borg to provoke them, I don't see them having any interest in revisiting our universe.

Ahhh, but at the rate they grow, they can just turn what no one wants into something very useful- look how often they just stick containment fields over asteroids and use them for internment camps and White facilities. And think of all the peoples, living in fear of the Borg- half the work is done! They just need to go there and put them to work... and sweep the Hirogen into cages somewhere...

And if they lose some soldiers... in a couple of weeks... they can alllll be replaced...

Grow my minions... grooowwww...

And then they sweep across the galaxy- there will be nowhere to run... :rommie:

Haven't a few wars over the centuries been fought over barren waste lands? Although admittedly, they did involve resources at some level.

Nah. Odo would just tell them to knock it off.

Oohhh will he now??

And what if he can't?

(Suddenly his wish from The Abandoned that the Jem'Hadar wouldn't think the Founders are gods seems misplaced...)

OTOH- for the sake of nostalgia, we will leave SF with this as a peace offering, in the spirit of our wish for harmony when we take you over:

Wouldn't it be better to combine the Federation emblem with the Dominion emblem rather than the Starfleet one?

I wondered about that when "Scorpion" Part 2 aired. Janeway talks about how a weapon of mass destruction would endanger innocent worlds. Although it seems like there wouldn't be any left in Borg space anyway.

In principal, probably- I just liked the way these two came together a lot better... SF in a cage, if you will... it looks so... right... :p

Even if the former Borg systems in the Delta Quadrant are stripped and useless it seems like there would still be a lot of chaos. The major power of the quadrant is gone, somebody is going to want to fill that role.

I suppose the Vidiens (sp?) are out of the picture since the phage has been cured. The Hirogen are probably taking advantage of the chaos with their usual hunting hijinx. The Kazon just don't have the tech to pull it off. The Voth seem like the most likely candidate to become the new major power there. Of course there are many races there that we never got to see..who knows?

Looks like Ambassador Neelix may have his work cut out for him.

On the Klingon situation, they seem the most dangerous when desperate or cornered. Or could this lead to them finally joining the Federation? Maybe Martok is the Chancellor to pull it off.

The Romulan Empire was already in chaos, I doubt this situation helped much..

This could be a big chance for some of the lesser powers of the alpha quadrant to reassert their power. Seems like the Gorn, Tholians, etc. probably only contributed so many ships to the effort. With the major powers so depleted this would probably be a good time for them to make some moves. Could be a big chance for the Cardies to make a comeback as well. A good chunk of the Federation isn't in much better shape than than Cardassia is now, assuming that Cardassia has actually had a chance to build back up a bit over the last few years.
