The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Here's a trick/flaw to use if you like. I found it by accident.

Do the Fighter's guild missions up until you start the mission where they give you this lower level fighter to take with you (he follows you around, help fight stuff, etc...) but then... don't do the mission. Just go back to doing the main quest or other missions for other guilds.

The guy will stay with you from then on, helping you fight stuff and running about. And the best thing is: he can't die. He might get torn apart by a wolf, but a few moments later he gets back up. He will even follow you into the infernal realms when you go across. He might fall into the lava and not be able to get out, but as soon as you go back to the real world, he appears next to you. If you race off, he will eventually catch up to you later in the game. It's great fun.

two items... if u do the mages quest and become mage leader you can get 5 apprentices to follow you... just go to the class run outside in the day and say hay follow me....
then to do the fighter quest and get another.....

and two... you don't need to sleep... when u sleep you raise your level when its available... You can get all of you abilities to 100 percent and still be a level 1.... just don't sleep... in a bed... u can wait... I've waited 24 hours once... didn't level... gotta sleep in a bed... yours... a inn's...

I've played several types of characters in the game... just keep restarting... did all the evil quest first... the order doesn't matter... evil... good... the only difference is the responses the nonplayer characters in the game give to you...

then theres the quest knights of the nine and you go thru that quest to get rid of all your evil accumulated points and gives you special equipment.

Oh yeah, if you finish the Mages Guild Questline, make sure you pick up the Staff of Worms. It allows you to resurrect the dead to fight on your side for a short time.

And for the love of god make sure the auto save feature is turned on.......i lost 6 hours of this game when i first got it because for some strange reason i had not activited the autosave feature......i was gutted.

All,

Great advice!!

I have 2 co-workers that are really into Oblivion so they are helping me too! :techman:

Well, I settled on a race, imperial.

I played around a bit in Imperial city, dropped of the amulet and manage to get bit by a vampire in one easy lesson .

Having fun with it so far (Gawd I was up till 2am).

IIRC, you can cure Vampirism within the first 72 hours by casting a cure disease spell on yourself, eating something with disease curing properties or visiting a temple and using the altar.

I have no clue on casting spells but I do remember an alter at the place I dropped the amulet off.
Maybe I'll beat feet back there and see if I can cure myself.
It will save several hours of game play if I can.

Any clue on a castle outside the Imperial city I can use a base?
One of my co-workers said there is a mini-quest and you get the castle as a reward.

^There's a temple in each of the towns. Any of those will work.

If you do not cure it within 72 hours then you have a job on your hands. Once you have been cured of actual Vampirism (not the first stage Porphyric Hemophilia) you cannot contract it again. You can still contract Porphyric Hemophilia but it will not turn in to full blown Vampirism.

Cool stuff, thanks.

It's funny, when I was telling some co-workers about getting bit a few others walked up while I was saying "I was up half the night trying to find a cure from getting bit by a vampire" they cocked their heads like a couple of dogs...HUH?

there's now a cool add on called "vile lair" i believe that is a vampire house... it comes with its own prisioner... he however can't be killed... you can shoot at him all day with arrows increasing ur accuracy and he won't die...

i do realize that magic is part of the game, is there a character with a happy mid-ground?

Ya, I been looking for any excuse to post that :p

I picked up the GOTY edition too the other day, haven't got a chance to play yet, but been wanting too. So, awesome thread.

Man, this thread is making me want to fire the game back up and start again. I probably put about 30 hours into it in my first playthrough before getting distracted by other things. Of course, knowing the things I know about all the different mods now...

My preferred race was the Nords. They're great at combat, but IIRC they also have some magical ability.

I decided on an Imperial.
Not saying that was the best choice but he is working pretty well for me so far.
Right now I'm working on my skills in the arena.
I made it up to warrior class but I'm getting my ass handed to me by that Nord chick.

EDIT TO ADD:
Holy crap! I just found out why I'm getting my ass kicked.
I am still at a level 1 and the Nord Chick is a level 5.
I guess I've done really well to have gotten that far.

I played this game for a while back at the end of '06, but never finished it. I really enjoyed parts of it, and it was very pretty. But I spent a ton of time finding myself enough chameleon gear to get to 100% chameleon, at which point the game was super easy because nobody could see me to fight back.

The reason I got the chameleon gear was because with the enemies levelling with you, I got annoyed by even minor villains like scamps and bandits being hard to fend off even in the late game. But once I got the chameleon gear and became like a god, it was too easy. That combined with the levelling system I could never figure out and I kind of gave up on it, never finishing the main quest.

I'm really looking forward to playing Fallout 3, which the girlfriend just got me for my birthday. Similar to Oblivion, but with guns & tech which I prefer to swords & magic, enemies that don't level with you, and a simplified levelling system. They basically fixed everything I didn't like about Oblivion, just for me. :-)
