This movie is stupid, mindless, ridiculously violent, has no plot, has two-dimensional characters, and pretty much has no redeeming artistic value what so ever. And I loved every second of it.
Exactly how I felt. I loved it. .... I might go see this one again just for the sheer mindlessness of it. :techman:

Same here. When a friend asked me about it he said he'd rather see this than The Spirit especially since I liked it. I told him I'd go see it with him if the timing worked. When I said that he was sold he must be worth seeing if I would go see it twice during its run.

I would and I just might.

Not a bad film, but something just felt a little off and I can't put my finger on it. The director/writers/actors, etc. pretty much nailed the feel of the Punisher comic.

I know I didn't care for the guy playing Jigsaw. His look before and after the accident was perfect, but his accent sounded horrible and very stereotypically like an Italian gangster. There were certain times when he was okay as Jigsaw, but the impression I got was a low rent Joker, circa 1989. I wish he had been a little bit colder, and less over the top. Looney Bin Jim, outside of the hospital scene never struck me as all that tough either. The Russian, from Tom Jane's film, was much better. In fact, I enjoyed the villians from the Tom Jane film more. The gangsters at the beginning of the film laid it the fake Italian accents too thickly as well. The Black Irish gangsters didn't work for me either. I could barely understand what they were saying and all that leaping around got on my nerves.

Ray Stevenson was great as Punisher. Wayne Knight was underused. Julie Benz-it's always great to see her. The rest of the cast was pretty good too. The ultraviolence worked. I hope this makes enough to get a sequel. I think they are on to something here.

Yeah the Deadline Hollywood article thinks they postitioned it badly(as did I and some others on here). It has Transporter 3 and still some Bond QoS as competition for the action/bloody male testosterone dollar. It will be lucky to do $5m which is blow the projected $8-10m Lionsgate was wanting.

I've heard its budget is $35m so it will need some good WOM and legs.

I agree with the bad positioning. I was thinking the same thing. After watching QOS and Transporter 3, from two more popular action franchises, even I was a little fatigued and perhaps jaded watching P: WZ. I think they should've put this movie out in September or October, between Dark Knight and Quantum of Solace, because there weren't many big action films-Eagle Eye perhaps-that would've challenged it.

I believe it was originally scheduled for August/September but Lionsgate stupidly pushed it back to December. I remember when it was announced and I knew then that it would be a bad decision on a fiscal level.

Right. I recall you, Vulcan and myself as clearly being on record that it looked like a foolish move to push PWZ into its current slot.

Punisher War Zone to open in 8th place with only $4million for its 3-day opening weekend.

I don't think it likely but it would be nice if this film actually got some good WOM during the week to have some type of rebound and/or stabilization for the duration of its December run cause its going to lose theaters big after next weekend with this pitiful opening.

It's a shame really. It's not a spectacular movie, but it's better then most of the top 5 movies in the country easily. Of course, the last one didn't really do that great either. The previews were terrible, and did nothing to sell people. And the studio did nothing to try and promote the film because they hated it and what Lexi Alexander was doing with it.

And I put off seeing it until next weekend.

Damn, that bombed hard.

I guess the rule for 2008 is, if a comic book film isn't a mega hit the first time, don't bother to try again with do-over. The Hulk franchise is probably over, and the Punisher won't be greenlit again.

I doubt it The Incredible Hulk is more liked than Hulk and has been doing very well on dvd. It made more than Hulk, maybe not much more...but it still managed it domestically and worldwide

Holy shit! It's doing worse then Howard the Duck.

not adjusted for inflation

Looks like you don't know what "adjusted for inflation" means.

Older movies make much more then they originally did if you adjust for inflation. That's why Gone with the Wind (198 million becomes 1.4 billion) beats everything including Titanic (600 million) domestically if you adjust a movie for inflation.

If you adjust for inflation then the older movie Howard the Duck beats the newer Punisher Warzone even worse.
