The long wait is finally over as the mammoth three volume, 1408 page, timeline included Star Wars The Complete Encyclopedia is out in book stores now. Well at least at my local Chapters is was out. I picked it up and if it wasn't sealed I would have opened it up and checked it out. Its freaking heavy though...its a $125 bucks Canadian, so around ninety American dollars. I'm asking my parents to get me this for Christmas...has anyone been lucky enough to pick up a copy yet or plan to in the near future?

Do you know whose autographs are on the bookplate?

Ooops... I see. the authors

Wouldn't it be pretty much impossible to have a complete Star Wars encyclopedia with the policy that Expanded Universe events are canon?

Exactly. Books like these are just a waste of money, because the universe is constantly being expanded upon.

I'd hardly call them a waste of money. As much material as there appears to be in there, it's probably a good resource for a great many fans. The big SW fan in our household was drooling over it, and he's a pretty picky consumer when it comes to SW merchandise. It simply matters just how much of the alleged SW universe you want covered.

Then again, I can understand the goal of the completist, wanting absolutely everything in the one set. It makes sense, but ... I think a lot of peopel are aware of the limitations and will be happy nonetheless.

Oh, it's a great reference for everything that's come out so far. But there will be another one in ten years, probably, to incorporate everything that's happened since today. This happened when they released The New Essential Guides between Episodes II and III, when it would have been far more logical to wait until after Episode III's release.

I'm not saying that there isn't a calculated maneuver for mroe $$$ here. However, I'll wager that it will be worth that cost to many, MANY fans for that length of time until the next update coems out. Caveat emptor perhaps, but to each their own as well.

If you don't care about the autographed bookplate or SW figure included, you can get a better deal on Amazon for $75.

For those with frequent, regular access to a fast Internet connection, perhaps.

I'm pretty sure most people who can't afford decent internet aren't going to dole out $75+ for a Star Wars encyclopedia that becomes outdated the moment it's published.
