Leonard Nimoy on the new film

Admiral Buzzkill

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
A statement published over at Trekweb.com today:

"About two months ago my wife,Susan, and I saw a near finished version of the new Star Trek movie. Some special effects and new score were not yet in place. Susan can be a very honest and tough critic. When it was clear that the story was wrapping up she turned to me and whispered, " I don't want this movie to end !!" There are some directors who can manage a grand scale and some who can deliver great personal character elements. Not many can do both. JJ Abrams is one of the few. He has given us a wonderful film."

Well, what does he know anyway? I mean, he was paid money to be in this thing, and he's constantly doing any kind of work for the money.

Or is that the other guy? I forget.

well of course he's going to say it's wonderful. what's he going to say... it suck's?

He does not have to say anything - and unlike some actors, he's perfectly able to restrain himself in that regard.

Anyway, I figure since all of us get to vent our largely-uninformed-and-anxiety-ridden opinions here on the Internet on a daily basis it can't do any harm to bring attention to the opinion of yet one more person who's actually seen the movie and who's invested, um, a little of his life and professional reputation in the Franchise. :)

Oh, a minor prediction: at some point, probably an industry screening, Rick Berman will see this movie and someone will ask him what he thinks and post that somewhere. He'll say something nice about it and a whole lot of fans will declare that this is proof positive the film will suck.

As a lifelong Trek fanatic with serious qualms and butterflies about this new movie...I sure hope he's right. For most or all our sakes.

Nimoy coming out of retirement to play Spock again, for me, is reason alone to think this film is going to be worth seeing.

Nimoy being in the movie as classic Spock gives me hope that if HE thinks the story is good enough and honors the franchise...maybe most of my fears will be unfounded. Hope so.

you just contradicted yourself." he's perfectly able to restrain himself?" apparently not in this case!

I did no such thing.

I said that he's perfectly able to restrain himself from making comments if he chooses.

Since he's not required to be making an enthusiastic endorsement like this and since he is capable of restraining himself from seeking public attention just for the sake of it, there is reason to take his opinion seriously rather than just tossing off an ill-thought comment like "well of course he's going to say it's wonderful. what's he going to say... it sucks?"

ummmm, yes you did!

thats not what you said. you said" he does not have to say anything-unlike some actors he's perfectly able to restrain himself in that regard". well , obviously he didn't restrain himself in that regard as you have stated. thats
a contradiction!

to say it's wonderful. what's he going to say... it sucks?"

of course he's not "required " to make an enthusiastic endorsement like that , but it's a bit unrealistic to think he would say anything other than something positive about the film, don't you think?

This is great news! :techman:

Unless he's senile, and then we're fucked.

Personally I am looking forward to this movie and I do respect Leonard Nimoy as an actor but, well considering this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbGiVuEP2Eg&feature=related ...

Bringing that song (and its video) up at this time is playing dirty pool. Shame on you.

Besides, we all heard it from Leonard's wife-
The movie was so awful, she wished it'd never end so it wouldn't get released and so the poor fans wouldn't have an opportunity to see it. See how much he and his wife care about us?

So there!

While Nimoy's statement doesn't guarantee that Trek XI will be a fantastic movie, I think it still carries a lot of weight. Nimoy strikes me as someone who is very careful with his opinion.

Just to be fair, notice we don't get HIS opinion, but that of his wife? He's simply passing it on to us, saying she's tough to please, making her opinion seem all the more favorable.

Better than two of the three other NEXT GEN films...that's for sure. I have fond memories of seeing GENERATIONS multiple times in the theaters around the time of my 20th birthday. Really got into the film and rushed to get it on VHS when it was released on home video the next year.
