Did I miss something? SG:A ending???

Just saw a teaser commercial during Wednesday's Ghost Hunters set and it said "series finale" and the "last episodes". So I take it that SG:A wasn't renewed and that we'll just have the new SG:U show to look forward to?

Hmmm...I wonder why they're doing this. I mean, I don't mind that they're ending SG:A, well I do, as I love the show, but it'll also mean that it'll be one less show I have to worry about getting on DVD.

That said, I've bene out of the loop for a while with regards to show developments, so I've missed out on what SG-U will be about? Is it gonna be a ship-based show? ie. Daedalous-class ship or something else?

I believe we found out 2 months ago about SGA's fate. SGU will take place witha crew stuck on an ancient ship in yet another galaxy. The only thing I dont like is they will have all the same writers for the most part from SGA. I think if they changed alot of there writers for SGA the show may have done better, and they really should have fresh writing in SGU also. I guess time will tell how good SGU turns out.

Yeah, that seems to be a major bone of contention with a lot of people, re: the writers. But me personally, I had no problem with that aspect. As I can't really tell bad writing from good. The only thing it seems is that SG:A wasn't as good at tying in story arcs from seasons past. It seems like they're too quick to destroy any potential plot elements that they could continue to use. Like for example the Ancient warship that the Atlantis crew captured. And it seems like they dumped the Daedalous team-up too quickly too. It seemed like they were always in transition to the Milky Way and back.

It was annouced near the end of August that this would be the final season. The reasons are diverse, but boils down to 2 primary factors-the producers not wanting to run 2 shows at the same time, combined with the success of the SG1 dvd movies and MGM not wanting to do three gate projects. We could have more SG1, and continue ATL as a weekly series but not have Universe...they didn't want all 3 going simulaneously.
So there will be at least 1 ATL dvd movie and one more SG1, and if it does well, ATL may get another.

I really can't fathom why people have a problem with the SG:A writers, I think they did an absolute fantastic job writing for the show, SG:A is one of my all time favourite shows (after Heroes ).

Perhaps if Kelly Kelly had appeared on Atlantis they wouldn't be in this situation.

One week is the ubiquitous village episode, the next is a Wraith show dealing with infiltration of a ship/base, the following week had replicators showing up, then we had another Wraith episode... IN a ubiquitous village.


Granted there have been some excellent episodes throughout the show, but on the whole the whole series has been playing out these last 2-3 years by writers who have either lost their creativity, or who got bored with SGA and put out the same lazy rehashed rubbish week in week out.

Because I enjoy some episodes and I like the characters and concept.

The village of the week is getting incredibly annoying though.

It's not all about where they go in the episode and what they do, there's also character development, character interactions between eachother and comedy which to be quite frank is the best i've ever seen on a sci fi show.

McKay is now with Keller, he's gotten FAR less annoying over the years, thank god but apart from that...

Teyla hasn't changed in 4 years apart from being more motherly this past season

But you also like Heroes, where the characters are placed by cruel, sadistic writers on a merry go round where they undergo unfathomable changes, sometime adopting diametrically opposed personalities within the space of minutes, and finally fall off the horse, hit their heads on the ground and puke. Or maybe that's the audience I'm thinking of.

Compared with the total chaos that has engulfed Heroes, SG:A is a model of good writing in just keeping their characters utterly static, which beats the hell out of schizophrenia imposed by one writer undoing what the previous week's writer was trying to do. The SG:A writers are lazy, unimaginative hacks but the Heroes writers appear to have declared open warfare on each other, the show, the characters, and the audience, which is kinda interesting in a sick sort of way but certainly not an improvement over hackdom.

^ oh yes I like Heroes but i'm more than aware of it's flaws. Just look at Syler and Elle and the personality changes that happen within the same episode. It's not just people neither, 'the company' was apparently this super bad villainous organisation that soon turned out to have been made to help people by taking villains off the streets. Heroes is pretty messed up but it's still an enjoyable show and more enjoyable than SG:A but I feel SG:A when it comes to character development and interaction etc have hit the nail on the head.
