Mailman doesn't deliver junk mail for seven years, put on probation.

Re: Mailman doesn't deliver junk mail for seven years, put on probatio

Their rates are logical. As a beginning carrier I made $15.04 an hour plus a 0.23 cent gas mileage.

It's jus that older carriers are getting paid too much and people aren't using the USPS as much as they used to since, as mentioned earlier, the internet, and of course widening competition like UPS and DHL.

Re: Mailman doesn't deliver junk mail for seven years, put on probatio

They, and last I heard, some internet providers, were talking about charging for sending e-mail.

That is just an urban legend, nothing more. Linky
Yeah, but you know it's only a matter of time Baba. There's money on the table and no one's going to let it sit there forever.

No, actually, this is one thing I'm *not* paranoid about.

Look at this; the USPS doesn't even have the *authority* to tax e-mail like the false rumor claims.

I like how you framed that answer.

CaptainStoner, I hope the USPS does not raise that rate to a dollar. I think it would decimate the art of letter writing. Consider Christmas. I send about 45 Christmas cards out. A book of 20 stamps costs me $8.40. 20 stamps under that rate would cost me $20. I would have to pay $43 to send out 2 1/2 lbs of mail. That would be an unreasonable amount, in my opinion.

He is truly the greatest postal employee who's ever lived.
He interfered with the delivery of the mail... While I applaud his acts, I am amazed he only got probation

True enough, for the moment. All it takes is legislation by Congress to make it so.

Like I said, it's only a matter of time.

Re: Mailman doesn't deliver junk mail for seven years, put on probatio

There's three of us in this building and our junk takes up a bin a week, our paper bin is emptied every fortnight and by then it's so full that we've been tossing junk mail in with the normal junk as well…

I really should go to the post office and register as a no junk mail recipient. -If it weren't for those two folders a week I actually haven't found a e-version of yet.

A mailman that doesn't deliver is like a cop that doesn't arrests: they should go to jail -no question about it.

I just checked on the US Postal Service's website, and it doesn't look like we have that option in the US. If we did, I'd be on it like white on rice. :(

Re: Mailman doesn't deliver junk mail for seven years, put on probatio

My junkmail goes on the burn pile. We use it for firestarter

Goood post guy! We need more like him.

Re: Mailman doesn't deliver junk mail for seven years, put on probatio

They've just updataed that service here; I now have the option to not have ANY junk delivered, or to not have junk mail delivered but still recieve the 'free papers'.

Usually the problem isn't with the post office though, but with private distribution of junk -there's just no stopping that -and it's the biggest load and most useless at that.

Also, recycling has never really caught on. It never made it much past the early 80's. Most people are just throwing out junk mail in the regular garbage, for various reasons, but all that paper does have value and ought to be reused, even if it's for more junk mail.

Maybe where you're from :wtf:

We recycle paper here. It's the law.

So you can't reserve yourself against un-adressed mail in the US?

Here, all you have to do is go to the postal office and reserve yourself against un-adressed mail. They give you a sticker that you put on your postal bin, and there, problem solved.

I have experienced someone actually ripping off my sticker, but I just replaced it.

Problem where I am is you can't prohibit them from sticking sh*t through your mailbox - and even worse, most takeaways use their own people to send out their leaflet crap. If I had my way, they'd all be shot for NOT READING THE F*CKING "NO JUNK MAIL" NOTICE...

I call bullshit on that bullshit. :D Linky

Re: Mailman doesn't deliver junk mail for seven years, put on probatio

That's funny, a month or so back, the paper had an article about a postal carrier who couldn't do her job, but needed her job...so instead of delivering the mail, she rented a storage unit and dumped the mail in it. Not just junk mail, either. No one found out until she couldn't make her storage payment. She got away with it for a few years.

Re: Mailman doesn't deliver junk mail for seven years, put on probatio

I don't mind junk mail, personally. If I see something I want to use like a haircut coupon or a pizza coupon, I'll keep it and chuck everything else. Although the everything else tends to be 99.9% of all the junk mail. No harm, no foul. Junk mail isn't intrusive like spam or telemarketers.

You know, I have to agree. I've never minded junk mail. Only takes a moment to look through and sometimes it really does let you know about new local businesses or events or discount deals. I'm on the preference services to stop telemarketing and am not a big fan of spam email either... but junk snail mail has never bothered me at all.

Here in the states we get assaulted with junk mail, spam emails, and telemarketers, for the junk mail, which is most prolific, we have no opt out. That being said, in my email inbox I can delete or filter, on my phone I can call screen, in my physical mailbox, of which I already have little room, 15 or 20 (and that's the norm) junk ads really grate on my nerves. I've had packages sent to the post office instead of to my door because the junk mail took up all the available space. It makes me incensed is what it does. I despise junk mail and feel this letter carrier should be awarded, not reprimanded. Junk mail's a plague on common sense and decency.

Re: Mailman doesn't deliver junk mail for seven years, put on probatio

I get a handful or so of junk mail every day, not the 15-20 you do, so I can understand why you're a little narked at it all. A handful is reasonable I think.

Email is far more irritating to delete than binning junk fliers and phone marketing is the absolute worst because of the intrusive nature of it. I only have a relatively small box in the lobby area myself, but it rarely fills up with junk mail.

Luckily where I live the "NO JUNK MAIL" notice has to be obeyed (least when it comes to advertising junk mail) else the person delivery it be prosecuted. This means that about the only junk mail I get is election material and community notices.
