Sometimes the casting department nails it. Sarek/Spock (Nimoy/Lenard) was perfect. Sarek and Spock, I think, are the best 'family' casting ever done on Star Trek, especially with THE SEARCH OF SPOCK/VOYAGE HOME when Lenard reprised his role...

But sometimes they get it wrong. Kirk/David...I think the guy who played David Marcus just wasn't right for the role. Now, he was good in the episode of TNG he did. But as Kirk/Carol's son? I never bought it....

Worf and DS9's Alexander...I liked the two kids on TNG who played Alexander...but the guy they had on DS9? No...Uh uh. I don't get the father/son vibe there...

Can you think of other 'family' castings that were either very good (Lal-Data) or very bad (Picard/Young Picard--nemesis)

I didn't mind the DS9 Alexander too much... I'm not sure he 100% physically looked like the TNG kid to me... something off... but the personality (you abandoned me and I don't know who I am or where to stand) worked well with the pouty face... LOL.

I liked Ziyal- she had an easy smile- like Dukat, but seemed intellegent and, importantly, innocent next to his manipulativeness...

Molly O'Brien was just adorable!!!!

I think that Jake looked right, and fit the part of a kid of a single dad who was always busy, even if I didn't like the character after season 3-ish...

I don't think there was meant to be one. Remember how Alexander never wanted to bother with the Klingon rituals and stuff? That is probably why Worf and Alexander reacted in DS9. It's too bad they couldn't of included Alexander in one of the films... I would of liked to see how Alexander would of turned out.

As for other castings, I bought into Ben/Jake Sisko straight away. Beverley and Wesley Crusher though? Meh, not so much. I don't know why.
