saddest songs ever

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
name some songs that, in your opinion, are very sad.

Cats in the Cradle, Harry Chapin/Ugly Kid Joe
Millennium main title theme, Mark Snow
Hello, Evanescence (cry like a baby every time I hear it, has special meaning for me)
Estranged, Guns n Roses
In the Arms of the Angel, Sarah McLachlan

Yeah, no need to merge, but there's definately some good stuff in there. I mean, it introduced me to Porcupine Tree, which basically makes it my favorite thread ever. :p

Anyway, in addition to those...

The Cure - Pictures of You
Mike Ness - Cheating At Solitaire
Amanda Palmer - The Point Of It All
Porcupine Tree - Feel So Low
Portishead – The Rip
Radiohead - How to Disappear Completely (And Never Be Found Again)
Radiohead – Motion Picture Soundtrack
The Replacements - Here Comes A Regular
U2 – Bad
The Velvet Underground – Pale Blue Eyes

These other songs aren't necessarily sad, at least in the sense of the previous ones, but I find them affecting in some way, being nostalgic or bittersweet or wistful or some other reason

Interpol – NYC
The Kinks – Waterloo Sunset
Oasis - Live Forever
Oasis - Slide Away
Nine Inch Nails – Zero Sum
Pavement – Range Life
Pearl Jam – Nothingman
The Pogues – Fairytale of New York
Porcupine Tree - Heartattack In A Layby
Porcupine Tree – Sentimental
Radiohead - Faust Arp
Radiohead – Videotape
Ride - Vapour Trail
Social Distortion – Angel’s Wings
Social Distortion – Ball and Chain
Social Distortion – Winners and Losers
Regina Spektor - Chemo Limo
Regina Spektor - Summer In The City
The Replacements – The Ledge
The Replacements – Skyway

Oh excellent choices. I struggle to even listen to Heartattack in a Layby! Portishead and Radiohead certainly do their best to make me well up that's for sure.

Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles
Yesterday - The Beatles
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Judy Garland
A Change Is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland
Shenandoah - Paul Robeson
Hallelujah - Rufus Wainright
Hero - Enrique Iglesias
Danny Boy
The Minstrel Boy

Edit:
The Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
Imagine - John Lennon
Mad World - Gary Jules

Not in the same class:

One Headlight - The Wallflowers
The Last Farewell - Roger Whittaker
O Death - Ralph Stanley

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. Obvious, but still...

Also, Time by Pink Floyd often makes me want to just end it all.

Not so much a song as a melody, but Mercede's Lullaby in Pan't Labyrinth I consider to be very sad. Of course, this is given the context in when it's used in the final scene of the movie....

"November Rain" by Chinese Democracy...er...Guns 'n Roses

"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by NOT MOTLEY CRUE aka POISON.

"Crossroads" by Bone Thugs in Harmony

"I will go down with this ship" by Dido

Martina McBride's "Concrete Angel"
Dixie Chick's "Travelin' Soldier"
Mark Wills' "Wish You Were Here"
Keane's "Everybody's Changing"
Sawyer Brown's "All These Years" or "The Walk"
John Michael Montgomery's "The Little Girl"
Michael W. Smith's "This Is Your Time"
