Why does Abrams keeps giving the middle finger to Trek fans?

Out polls show that 100% of people like chocolate! THEN WHY IN THE HELL ARE WE LOSING MONEY!?!?!?

Well I certainly feel like Ive been given the middle finger.

He should be like Lucas and make movies for people who like digital muppets!

Or Michael Bay and make movies for people who like X-Boxes and American flags!

I mean, how dare he make a movie for people who like movies?!?!

I don't suppose that you have any explanation for the fact that not a single episode of "Star Trek," ever, nor any airing of any "Star Trek" movie, has ever captured anything approaching 60% of the television audience?

Didn't think so.

so because 60% of americans say that they are fans that means that they all will be watching every episode in unison? some people have lives beyond trek. nice try!

A poll from almost 20 years ago...in TNG's peak...is not "a couple of years ago".

Why does Abrams keeps giving the middle finger to Trek fans?
Because nothing else works?
it still doesnt change the fact that a large number of people are trek fans! is that so hard to understand?weather the poll was 17 yrs ago or 17 minutes, the fact of the matter is that a large percentage of fans are older and dont go to movies as often as they used to . like ive said before, give them a quality product and they will come and see it! films like insurrection and nemisis didnt help the franchise much. enterprise almost killed it!

A poll from 20 years ago is no longer accurate so you should quit using it as if it came out last week.

ok. in a poll done by the los angeles times in 2005 it was stated that over 50 % of americans are star trek fans! is that one inaccurate as well because its three years old? it seems the statistics have stayed pretty constant in the last twenty years! your ignorance is showing.do you need me to list more?

Where was this poll? Got a link? I'd like to see how many people total voted in the poll. According to the US Census, there were approximately 296,000,000 Americans in the US at the time. So you're telling me there were about 140,000,000 or so Trek fans bopping around? If so, "Enterprise" should have had gangbuster ratings and we'd be on the second TNG movie after "Nemesis" by now.

You've ignored every attempt to explain to you what's wrong with your reliance on these "polls" as a basis for debate, so I must conclude that you're not interested in understanding, that your opinion is therefore essentially without content or value, and move on.

No. I think you have done enough to prove a point on why Abrams said what he said. Thank you. :vulcan:

Wow.

I think Abrams was trying to say that the new "Star Trek" movie is not oriented towards a fan-audience, is not made specifically for people who're already familiar with "Star Trek", but made for an audience who might enjoy a good movie. That's all he was trying to say.

I also think that the attempt to read some sort of hostility or insult in Abrams' innocuous comments shows a desperation on the part of some readers to be offended by Abrams.

You think?????
Seriously people. It's just a movie. Get a grip.

“We weren’t making a movie for fans of Star Trek. We were making a movie for fans of movies.”

I mean, fine, even the "I've never been a fan of Star Trek" comes into play here.

We all know what he's doing. Why does he need to throw it in our faces? I've come to understand the Star Trek that I know and love will be available to me in the future only in novel form-- but even with your "reimagining" of Trek, do you have to keep shitting on the life-long fans?

I'm admittedly still pretty excited about this movie because I have an open-mind, and I do "like movies." I loved Transformers, X-Men, the Incredible Hulk, and all the cheesy remakes plaguing our society ;). I think J.J. Abrams is well-suited to creating something that "most people" will actually find they enjoy, having never seen an episode of Star Trek. Remember, after Nemesis, keeping Star Trek on the big screen required nothing less than a complete overhaul-- back to the basics. I remain cautiously optimistic, but I find it unfortunate that Abrams feels the need to estrange the people who... um... still chat about Star Trek on message boards ;)

Some fans on this board have been thrashing this guy since day one..then you thrashed on TOM CRUISE cause he was rumored to be in it..then its was Chris Pines turn..then the new uhura..then the new Enteprise..the bridge..

NAG NAG NAG..

I'd be flipping some of us off too, if I was in his position..
